Sad news to hear about Brod Raymond Mizal’s ‘75 passing. I heard about his passing thru his brother in law, Brod Super L (Adrian Pinera’85) and sis Minnie’s post. May his soul rest in peace. I remember him fondly as a die hard, loyal and generous brother. Steady fixture sa Coop and many jug a lugs and colorful events during our resident days in the mid to late 80’s. He was already an elder Brod at the time but relished spending time and hanging out with the resident brods at Coop during those days, taking time after work to tambay, break bread, drink and dispense brotherly care, & advise (at kalokohan) to resident brods (mostly drink). Madami ring mga masasayang jug a lugs that he hosted for the Brods in their Carbern residence sa Anos during those days. One vivid memory was a jug a lug event sa Coop, 1986. Near 6 PM and we were just a handful of brods just finishing up and ready to go home. And 6 pm, as some would unfortunately know, and depending on who you were on Campus, could be a bad hour to be near Coop. Jojo’79, Super L ‘85, myself, Raymond ‘75 and Ador’85. Then comes yung isang miembro ng kabilang panig on a motorbike. He made the bad mistake of looking in the direction of Coop. And he made the 2nd even worse mistake of circling back nung inalaska ng mga brods. Konting katuwaan at duscussion noong tumigil sya in front of coop. Paalis na sana but his bike couldn't move! Dahil everytime he pressed the accelerator in his attempt to leave, binubuhat ni Raymond yung likod nung motor! Hindi lang siguro limang beses niyang sinubukang umalis, but could not! Comical scene to look back to now but really bad for him at the time. Nakatikim din ng ilang ma-a-anghang na salita (and a few strategically placed “reminders”) yung Upsilon bago pina uwi ng mga brods. Of course that was the fuse that lit up a very exciting and colorful night for the 3 of us, ako, Super L and Jojo A, culminating in front of Men's dorm and the barracks! (turns out nagsumbong yung Upsilon sa kuya niyang Vanguard …but that is a different story altogether). And then kinabukasan report sa OSA and a session with OSA Director Mervyn Misajon.

Brod Raymond is 75c Argentum. We like to call them as the silver batch of UPBSF UPLB Chapter -1950.

I also know it's not for us now to publish our rambol days as it is best said pag inuman na lang or pag tayo-tayo na lang gatherings of brods. But Raymond, whose baby face was likened to moviestar Jose Mari Gonzalez, was as fearless as brods can be. He was always a member of the strike force (mid 70s to early 80s), the selected group of not more than 5 brods who would roam during rambols (night or daytime) looking to engage & would not care if the target(s) would number 1 or 20. Eto yung tipo na brod na pag kasama mo, feeling safe ka na. A street fighter brod na exempted sa SOMA, hehe. Naging mag kumpare kami when I became godfather to his youngest son's wedding.

Ng nakatira sila sa Crossing, LB (may family & work), we would drink sa labas ng apartment nila under the sky & we would start at 630pm (after work nya) & the moon would be on the far side & we would measure the time as the moon rose & set in the horizon at the other end of the apartment. Dito sa apartment ni brod Raymond inuso nya sa amin sa 80s time then, yung " uwian tayo 9pm (last trip ng jeep from Crossing to LB Campus) pero 6pm pa lang so 3 hours pa tayo brods..", hehe even though it was in reality 845pm. And so more often than not, lakad kami lahat pauwi back to LB campus for brods like me who lived inside the campus. Uso rin yung inumang pogi na pag naubos na chaser eh pag tagay mo eh sipol sabay ngiti...if you failed eh penalty ng isang tagay pa (ok lang pero mauuna ka malasing hehe)...and of course yung "for the road.."

We all became close to his wife Sis Minnie who would remind us gabi na, may pasok pa kami bukas brods...sometimes as a gentle reminder & sometimes galit na rin, hehe.
