Golden Flashback by Norm Bituin, July 10, '09
As our Foundation Day approaches - in about four days - I've been flipping though my personal files for some nights to see what I had saved and can share on the world wide web with the brods before we hit our 63rd Anniversary on Tuesday, July 14. Well, here are a couple of pages from the 1996 Souvenir Program, the fold-up Invitation and all 4 pages of "The UP Betan" newsletter which I've scanned. I am also posting shots taken by the roving professional photographers contracted by the fraternity during the reunion, as well as some that I had taken myself.
We will wait for the stories and photos that we hope to receive from the residents and alumni in the National Chapter, from the provincial chapters in the Philippines, in North America and other parts of the world for publication in our website. Meantime, let these mementos from our 50th Golden Anniversary provide you with some easy reading and fond memories of 1996 - when we were 13 years younger!
Cheers!!

Brod Homero Veloso'46 poem readers: Boy Morales, Norman Bituin, Mat Defensor, Vic Ramos and Rico Arranz
I did some research on Brod Homero Veloso, who we were told died at a very young age. This is what I found in Filglobe.com written by Isabel T. Escoda on Dec, 19, 2007: "Homero Veloso, a Cebuano intellectual who slit his wrists and bled to death in his bathtub back in the 1950s."
When I dug up my files further, I discovered to my delight that I had kept the original copy of the poem that I read. -- NB 7/11/09
Ancient Hopes Are Draped Ancient hopes are draped through the mask Of sighs: an anticipation of the dawn, while Fury sears a breast. What silent melodies From broken strings.
Magnificence winding on illusory tracks Grasping out limp limbs to break a fall.
Another incantation to dispel the fright And weakened knees are wanting, in despair,
Calling destiny to prevent hypocrisy by Autopsy of deadening desires awakened by A touch where meaning most covered with the Fears of a thousand lonely passionless nights.
Played on an instrument that whimpers songs Of sad mysteries, and vitality is damned up Before Death comes to claim what is rightful.

This is also Homecoming 1990. Here's what I mean when I said about us being years younger. I did look cuter (or nakakata-cute?), I think, with the "bandido" look. What do you think?
