-- Brod Dave Perez UPD'64 passed away in Davao City.

-- I only came across the sad news in FB in the timeline of my Varsity teammate Sieg Guerrero, a Sigma Rhoan (his wife Susan was one of Dave's star players in the multi-titled women's basketball team that he coached in UP). This photo was taken in Davao during their balikbayan trip in 2020.

-- Some details I got from a former Varsity teammate. Dave died of heart failure due to Covid-19 two weeks ago.

This is quite shocking. The last time I saw Dave was when he was with the UP Tarlac PE faculty. I was a medical detailman assigned in Pampanga but was in Tarlac, sometime 1969-70, to spend a night with my Tarlac relatives. We were dining at Urdu Resto/Beer House with Joe Esmundo, an Upsilonian friend and co-faculty of Dave.

Do you have any particulars/details on his passing? Any other info, photos or lead that you can share with me so I can build a memoriam in our UPBSI website to honor him.

I am copying Mon Carpio who lives in Davao and Joe Rebano, Dave's Varsity teammate/buddy.

Dear Brother Norman,

I learned from Brother Orly de los Santos that Brother and our Captain Ball Dave Perez died of Covid-19. No additional info from Brod Freddie de Leon. At least we got together when he returned from abroad when his son died about a couple of years back.

Attached is a picture of our 1962-1963 UP Varsity Basketball team where we had seven Beta Sigmans as part of that team:

Kneeling; Dave Perez, UPD'64 (captain ball); Joe Rebano, UPD'62; and Sammy Bautista, UPD'62.

I recall the '62-'63 team also did very creditably in the UAAP that season. If my memory serves me right - we ended up in a triple tie for first place in the second round but missed the playoff for first losing to UST/UE by a foul throw, a costly heartbreaking miss by Alandy.

Per Cecille Galapon Acosta Magcalas, it is with sadness to inform the Brotherhood that her Tatay, Brod Andres "Andy" Lagartija Acosta, UPLB- Forestry Batch 1964 (Devoted to you), died yesterday morning, Sunday, June 13, 2021 at the local hospital in Concepcion, Tarlac. Accordingly, the cause of death was "Cardiogenic Shock". The wake is at the Enriquez Funeral Chapel in Tarlac City, and the internment is scheduled on June 16, 2021 at the San Vicente Catholic Cemetery. Brod Andy is survived by his wife, 4 children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Brothers, let us offer prayers for the eternal repose of the soul of our dear fraternity Brother Andy Acosta+. We hope to provide you more relevant info upon receipt. Thank you all and God bless our dear fraternity!

Andy worked first as a company Forester of Alcantara & Sons Logging Company in Davao, and later on transferred to DENR, assigned for Timber Management works in Region 4A in Palawan, and later on transferred to Region 3, Central Luzon, where he retired in 2008.

Brod Bobby was my devoted student in martial arts. He was a qualified brown belt. He was daring, aggressive and played calculatedly in the Karate Federation of the Philippines (KaFePhil) tournaments as part of the BSSOMA team. Soft spoken and caring. His passing is a great loss to all. Our condolences and prayers to Sis Harlean and the Pascual family.

May his soul have peace in the Kingdom of the Lord.

Dear UP North Family and Betan Brothers,

It's with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that I am giving this notice. At about 11:45 tonight, our Sis Harlean called to inform us that her loving husband, and our beloved Brod Bobby passed away, relieved and free from all his pains. Harlean and sons Treb and BJ were at his bedside when Bobby passed away at the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital in Salinas, CA.

Let us all join in prayers for Bobby's perpetual rest. For Sis Harlean and Famiy, know always that your Betan Family is here for you.

Brod Bobby drove all the way from Salinas, Ca, a good 3 hr drive to Brod Pog’s n Sis May’s place at Middlefield Road in Palo Alto to join in the fellowship held for me by brods of UP North, CA in 2018. And then drove back again by himself at around 9 pm. That was the last time I hugged brod Bobby Pascual, UPD 68 Blitzkrieg. Rest in eternal Peace my dearest brother.
