Another Batch 46 (initiated) has gone ahead in the person of Brod Dr. ANTONIO 'TONY" LAHOZ. It was a great opportunity and privilege to have talked to him at length during our Ilocos Trek in 2017 with Brod Kiko Delmendo and wife Tetet, Brod Bong Beredo and Brod Ed Rivera.

Our ancestral house in Vigan City is just two-stones throw away from the residence and hospital of Brod Tony Lahoz. Everyone in Vigan knows Brod Dr. Tony Lahoz, as he is one of the very few elite medical practitioners here.

According to him, he was the grandson of a pure Chinese from mainland China, who got married to an Ilocana from Santo Domingo, Ilocos Sur. His father transferred his family to the nearby town of Vigan years before World War II.

Our visiting group had to wait a few minutes for Brod Dr Tony Lahoz for him to finish his daily exercise within the vicinity of his hospital, now managed and operated by his doctor son. According to the hospital staff, Dr. Lahoz, then 91 years old, said he had been having moments of dementia. That explains why it took a few seconds for him to warm up to us as we introduced ourselves as his fraternity brods. As we went on with our conversation, he became animated and recalled some of his moments as a UP student. He said he was taken as member of the varsity javelin throw team because he was thought to be an Igorot. He remembered that the initiations then were "light" and had to perform some "missions" for the masters, like bringing flowers to coeds.

We had to cut short our visit as we had a lunch date with Brod Mayor Butch Tadena (+). Brod Tony Lahoz was so happy that morning that he even walked us to the the van of Brod Kiko.

That was the last time we saw him. May he rest in peace.
