John Fred Antig
Beta Sigma Fraternity
Survived: UP Baguio Pioneer Batch 1977 October 3rd

I have been fortunate to be with a family that grew up in two mining companies. We lived in 2 closely knit communities: Altas Mining at Cebu, where I had elementary; and Lepanto Mines for high school at Mankayan, Benguet. I enrolled in UP Baguio 1996. I met Steve Perez during my sophomore year and was introduced to Rene Evangelista and Bong Lacson. I joined Beta Sigma Fraternity thereafter. My days at UP Baguio were short but eventful. After the first semester of 1978, since my father moved to Atlas Mining, Cebu, we decided to transfer to the University of San Carlos, Cebu. My first day of school at USC, I was sitted beside Brod Allan who survived USC Beta Sigma, batch 1977. I graduated a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from USC, 1984, fortunately I graduated with Brod Mike USC Beta Sigma, batch 1977. After passing Licensure exam, I worked at Atlas Mining as an Electrician, then got promoted as an Electrical Engineer for their Safety Department.

Thanks to my mother’s grandpa, a US Army veteran from the Spanish-American War, who immigrated to the Philippines, I was able to immigrate to the US, arriving September 1991.

I joined the US Navy. After 2 years I was sent to Electrician Mate Naval School at Illinois where I met Brod Teng DLSU batch 1982C. I experienced my first Beta Sigma Midwest Induction Ball in 1995. Brod Jun Castro was the GP, meeting brods from UP Brod Lem and USC Brod Pepe. I played basketball for Beta Sigma Midwest and we won against visiting Brod Bhot Salas' team.

After being a Navy Service School Distinguished Military Graduate, I opted to move to a cruiser at San Diego until my honorable discharge in 1998. I used my GI bill education at the California State University Los Angeles to finish management courses. I worked with Crown City Plating, United Airlines, and SONGS-Southern California Edison. I am presently working with Metro Transit Authority, Wayside, as Rail Electrical Supervisor.
