Brothers All of the SoCal Chapter,

Please find attached pictures covering the recently concluded TDS community outreach program sponsored by your very own UP BS SoCal chapter in partnership with UP BS Central as an integral part of the Fraternity's 70th Anniversary celebrations last month. This is the 10th consecutive year that your very own UP BS SoCal chapter have sponsored and conducted this community service program not only to honor the memory of our own Tito De Santos; but more importantly, to bring what little comfort and help we could to our less fortunate kababayans.

After viewing the pictures, may I direct your attention to the "thank you" letter from the Punong Barangay (barangay captain) that also highlights the success of our community outreach program; to wit:
a) There were 500 children (preschoolers and grade-schoolers) who came which is 100 more than the initial 400 who were already pre-registered
b) There were roughly about 75 to 80 tooth extractions conducted by volunteer brod/sis dentists
c) All 500 children benefitted from the wellness program and medical checkup conducted by Brod Dr. Quilillan and his team of brod/sis doctors
d) All 500 children were recipients of a goody bag containing school supplies (pencil, pad paper, etc.), vitamins and other nutrition supplements ( thanks to brod Eding)

There may have been a few children whose goody bag did not contain school supplies - we ran out of school supplies (we prepared school supplies for only 400 who pre-registered plus about 20% contingency); however, we made up for it by providing them with extra helpings of "lugaw" and "taho." (3,000 pesos worth of lugaw and 4,000 pesos worth of taho were served during the event)

Brothers, the pictures may be captivating and may be representations of the event; however, the pictures do not tell the whole story nor do they adequately convey the gratefulness of the children nor the good "vibes" and the "feeling good" of the brods who volunteered their time and resources to make this event happen. We may not have dramatically changed the lives of these children; but I for one, feel good that there are about 75 or so children that will not suffer from a toothache any time soon; I feel good that there are 400 plus children who are smiling because they have a slick pencil and a pad of paper; I feel good...and you should to because you are also a part of this.

A big thank you to Brod Eding Hizon, who consistently provided us with medicines, vitamins, dental anesthesia, and nutritional supplements...
A big thank you to Brod Buddy Quililan and his team of brod/sis medical and dental doctors...
A big thank you to Brod Jojo Alejar, incumbent president of UP Central who coordinated this year's TDS community outreach program...
A big thank you to Brod Poty Aparato, my kabatch and our "boots on the ground" who coordinated with the barangay officials and provided the necessary logistical support...
A big thank you to the resident brods who were our manpower and did the literal heavy lifting...
A big thank you to Brod Pastor Rod Reyes who gave the invocation ( there should be no undertaking without first invoking the blessings of God) ...
A big thank you to all brods who came and supported the event...
Last and not least, a big thank you to you the members of the UP BS SoCal chapter, you made this happen.

Cheers,
Roy Antonio '77A
