BETA SIGMANS do have a big heart.

Just a day after celebrating Valentine’s Day, the UP Beta Sigma Fraternity, together with the UP Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and the UP Beta Sigma Southern California Chapter, we held our 9th Tito de Santos Community Service Program.

It has become an annual community extension and outreach and service program aimed at helping the less fortunate residents of Barangay UP Campus.

This year’s Tito de Santos Community Service Program focused on giving free medical check-up and wellness kits to the elderly, free dental check-up and procedures, free reading eyeglasses and deworming for the young children of the said barangay.

Aside from the deworming, the children also received a pair of slippers to further add to their joy.

Beta Sigmans, residents and alumni alike, prepared early for the event. In the spirit of the Fraternity’s tradition of service, all Betans who participated in the event made sure that all the needs of who attended the medical mission were taken care of. Indeed, it was the perfect opportunity to showcase that once a Betan had committed to the spirit of service, he shall do everything in his capacity to help the needy citizens of our country.

The Fraternity brothers were tasked to operate on four stations. There was the medical check-up for the elderly with the help of the Beta Sigma Medical Caravan led by Brod Buddy Quililan, with the support of resident brothers taking up medicine from UERM.

Then we had a dental station set up for dental check-up and simple dental procedures, such as extraction.

The third was set up for the deworming of the children in the barangay. They were given dosages of anti-parasitic medications and after that were given a pair of slippers.

Another station was set-up to distribute the wellness kits to the elderly.

We had UP Beta Sigma SouthCal Chapter GP Ed Rivera, UP Beta Sigma International President Edsel Arceo and Brod Willie “Tatang” Vergara representing the US-based brothers who had inspired this gathering to show the Fraternity’s commitment that the spirit of giving back to the community never gets old as evidenced by the 9th year of consecutive success of the annual Tito de Santos community outreach project.

After all, in the Barangay UP community, this project is something they look forward to annually. It is an evidence of the continuing legacy by the UP Beta Sigma Fraternity.

This event also became a perfect opportunity for the resident brods and alumni to get to know each other especially that this event brings several of the alumni brods based outside the country back to UP for this annual event.

While doing their tasks for the day and right after the program itself, the brods shared and exchanged stories of their times. Seeing how the different generations of Beta Sigmans come together for this event was a sight considering the number of stories told.

Surely, this day became a celebration of the Fraternity’s legacy of service, of having a big heart to serve the community and empower each brother in the Beta Sigma Fraternity.

Cheers to the Tito de Santos Community Service Program!!
