On February 10, 2014, a final meeting for the 8th TDS Medical Mission was held at the office of Prez Beloved Rolly Reyes at the Lower Penthouse of the Burgundy Tower. Attendees were the UPBSF Central Chapter Board of Directors, UP Barangay Chairwoman Gravides and her secretary, Brod Founder Rico Arranz , Brod Eding Hizon and Brod Dr. Buddy Quililan. UP SoCal was represented by Brod Nonoy Bautista and myself. Brod Eding Hizon brought with him boxes of medicines to be used for the mission at the meeting. And three days after, through the assistance of Tina Martin’s brother, we were also able to solicit a couple of boxes of medicines from the Pascual Lab. My ka-batch, Lakan Fonacier, for the second year, was ever so generous for his donation to cover the cost of bottled waters.

As requested by Brod Dr. Buddy Quililan UPLB'78, the lead doctor for the mission, we (Brod Nonoy, Brod Joel Paredes and myself) had to procure additional multi-vitamins (with B-complex) for all the prospective senior patients. And with the help of seven resident brods and Joel’s office assistant, we spent almost the entire Saturday, the day before the event, separating and packing the meds/vitamins at Brod Joel’s office.

Sunday, February 16, 2014, the day of the big event. The resident brods and the LCs were at the UP Barangay Hall before 7:00am. The residents got busy preparing the temporary ‘pharmacy’ while the LCs prepared the forms/documents at the registration table. Senior patients started arriving at around 8:00am. Brod  Dr. Buddy Quililan and the rest of the brod doctors arrived shortly and started seeing patients. At the end of the day, more than 225 seniors were ‘serviced’ by our brod/doctors and dentists. The resident brods were in-charge of assisting the seniors as well as the handing out of medicines/prescriptions while the LCs  got busy filling up the registration forms for the patients

What is so amazing was the great turn-out of alumni brods for the event, thanks to Brod Rolly Reyes’ constant announcements thru text blasts. There were at least fifty alum brods who were present during the affair. Fellowship for the brod/doctors was held at Café Via Mare near Balara. The fellowship for the resident brods, LCs and the rest of the alum brods was held at Brod Rolly’s office. Brod Congressman Mat Defensor joined the fellowship at the Burgundy Tower and brought with him a JW Blue.

All in all – it surely was a big success. The seniors were all so grateful. And the brods had an amazing fellowship during and after the event.
