10th Annual Kickin' Cancer 5K Walk/Run & Family Expo by Mayette Arceo
Studies have shown that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. It remains to be one of the leading causes of death in women in the United States today. As an auxiliary community outreach project, the UP Beta Sigma SoCal Les Dames joined the "Kickin' Cancer" 5k walk/run on Sunday, September 18, 2011 in Brentwood, California to benefit The Lynne Cohen Foundation for Ovarian and Breast Cancers Research. Our team, Team REx (Run to Exhale) with 29 participants walking from UP Beta Sigma family and friends, raised a combined total amount of $1,320.00 including donations. It was a "pink" day for UP Beta Sigma SoCal.
This project hits very close to the hearts of all les dames, and while others who joined the benefit walk did it in memory of someone they know who lost the battle to cancer, we walked in celebration of life (of one of us) and praised the Lord for the gift of life. One day there will be a cure for cancer, because "when one chooses hope, nothing is impossible."
To all wonderful friends of the UP Beta Sigma SoCal, the les dames wish to thank you for your donations, your participation and support to our project. And to all its members, UP Beta Sigma SoCal's finest brods, thank you for the encouragement and love which spawned our project to be successful, meaningful, fab, and glam :)
