      #Back2Back: A day of Celebration
      from Joshua Balinas '14A, Herald

This is the season of giving and celebration
and the UP Beta Sigma Fraternity gave the UP community more reasons to
celebrate this wonderful time of the year as the residents hosted a string
of events last December 15, 2014 in line with UP’s Lantern Parade
      celebrations.
#Back2Back: a day of celebration kicked off with Operation Big Brother, a
feeding and outreach program for young children coming from UP’s Pook
Palaris. Together with the Beta Sigma Ladies Corps, the resident brods
hosted a mini-Christmas party for the children to impart Christmas cheers
to hearts of the children in line with the goal of the Fraternity to give
back to the UP community. The hour long program was filled with fun and
entertainment as the children get to participate in the games prepared.
Prizes were given, much to the delight of the young visitors. A face
painting session with the resident brods from the College of Fine Arts
also brought joy to the young participants. A meal from sponsor Chef’s
Grille was shared by the children during the program. And to cap off
Operation Big Brother, loot bags, school supplies (courtesy of sponsor
Nation Paper Products & Printing Corporation (NAPPCO)) and toys were given
as gifts to the children who participated in the event. It was good and
fulfilling for the residents to see smiles in the faces of the children as
they prepared to go home after a fun-filled program.

After Operation Big Brother, the residents prepared for the Betan Rose
Giving and Harana. Accompanied with a violin and guitar playing acoustic
melody at the the CASAA Food Center, the resident brods distributed roses
to the lovely ladies present at the said venue. The roses came along with
invites for Folkways 2014: Rock4Relief, the free benefit concert for
      Typhoon Ruby survivors.

The festivities of the day continued as the annual Lantern Parade in UP
Diliman started. Colorful lanterns of different colleges graced the parade
much to the enjoyment of the spectators of the annual event in UPD.

And once the dust settled after UP’s annual lantern parade, the music from
Folkways 2014: Rock4Relief3 started kicking in. Featuring several local
bands like Join the Club, Give Chance To Run, bands from UP organizations
UP Music Circle (Oh, Flamingo and Aimless) and UP Underground. Music
Community (Shirebound and Busking) and bands formed by resident brods from
UP Diliman (Asparagus) and UPLB (Anunsyo), Rock4Relief3 aimed at giving
support to the IskoOps, the UP University Student Council relief efforts
for the survivors of Typhoon Ruby.

Attendees rocked to the various genre of the
bands playing for the concert. Generous audience members also contributed
to the relief efforts while enjoying the show.
The fun never stopped that night, though. Right after the concert, the
residents and alumni shared a couple of drinks in the tambayan to cap the
night of celebration. The tambayan was filled with Beta Sigmans eager to
share the holiday cheers with one another. Indeed, that day was a day of
      celebration.
