UP NorCal Welcomes Back Ed Tadiar
by Gabby Moraleda
“G’day mate” -- is an everyday
greeting from the land down under. To us Betans it is “Welcome back brod
Ed. Cheers”.
As such, UP North entertained our brod from Adelaide, Australia at Brod
Gerry and Lleva’s Richmond home. There to give a warm welcome, even at
such short notice were Hepe Dave & Mercy, Boy & Irma, Eric & Lita, Ding
& Julie, Ric, Billy, Kiko, Gilbert, Cyrus, Babes and Gabby.
Brod Ed Tadiar 71a UPD, was sponsored by Brod Judz Rey 68a. “Nagtanong
lang ako kung papaano pumasok hindi na ako pinakawalan.”, Ed recounts.
Judz who was then a “college drifter” (or in frat parlance - lipat ng
lipat ng kurso) did not complete his Geology degree and was “shipped out”
by older brother Teddy '62 to America. As it turned out it was the best
thing that happened because in a twist of fate, Judz became one of the
highly recognized Fil-Am entrepreneurs in Indiana.
Like his frat sponsor, Ed is an achiever. He belongs to a group of
successful Betan geologists (Pol Damasco+, Ces Aparato, Francis Santos,
Rey San Juan, Bobby Gonzales and Dopoy Garcia+) that graduated at the onset of Martial Law. Together with
his classmates, Ed was recruited to form the nucleus of what is now the
Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC). Thus, his colorful career in the
oil and gas exploration began.
Ed took up post grad studies in Geophysics at the University of Houston.
He works for the Santos Ltd. the second largest oil and gas exploration
company of Australia. He basically rose from the ranks and is now part of
its new ventures group and travels extensively within South East Asia. He
is extremely familiar with the oil and gas resources of the region – and
yes, including Malampaya. Although he has made his retirement plans well
known to the company where he has worked for 30 years, he is still pursued
and persuaded by his peers to do consulting work. For now, Ed looks
forward to retirement and plans to return to the Bay Area in 2014 – to be
with family and, siyempre, with us.
Ed is happily married to a lovely Bicolana, Guia. They have 3 children –
Dr. Tatum Sarah Tadiar-Cheshire, Zarya Tadiar-Bautista and Artemus Tadiar.
An avid golfer, Ed makes it a point to play the game wherever he goes. He
even brought his own set of clubs and has played in well known courses in
Marin County. Paging – brods Gilbert, Chito and Winston. Alas, a scratch
golfer for UP North. Watch out, Rolly Balingit.
A great evening recalling the good times. Lots of “signature” kwentos and
aliases of the 70’s – “Fried Rice” Bacosa, “Speedy Bagal” Medina, 357
Lalas, “Palso” Flores and his most feared master – Ernie “Togi” Igot !
Oh, by the way, Ed has expressed his intentions of being a UP NorCal
member. This brought a smile to GP Dave. Happy trip and see you next year
brother.
"G'day, mate!"
