UP Mindanao Alumni Gathering with one of the five Founding Members

Christmas Season is always the best season to be back where you belong and see the faces of the people you once shared beautiful memories with especially during your college years. The UP Beta Sigma Fraternity Mindanao Chapter, despite the early Christmas gathering at Brod Solomon Carpio’s place during his Birthday last December 16, the Brods could never still resist to have another round of beer, pulutan, and chit-chats one last time before the year 2014 ends. A gathering that was filled with joy and Brothers longing for each other’s company held at Briana’s Bar (near Ateneo de Davao University GS/HS Campus).

Some of the Brods that have survived from the said Chapter may have commitments on returning to their provinces and were not able to attend, but still, the event was colorful and exciting attended by UP Mindanao Chapters former Grand Princeps Brod Dr. Mohammad Khalil Guinomla (2000-2001), Brod Aran Jed Peralta (2006), Brod Juan Carlos Miguel “Mikko” Herrera (2007), Brod Getulio Eduardo “Boji” Bote (2008), Brod Mon Alberto Echevarria (2009), Brod Bert James Millendez (2010), alumni Brods that are products of the UP Mindanao Chapter Brod Atty. Ramon Alfredo dela Cruz, Brod Arthur John Peralta, Brod Jayrome Rala, Brod Melvin Nitafan, Brod Richard Von Lao, Brod Drenzel Christopher Mirambel with 4 resident Brods that were currently in the city namely Brod Emmanuele Militar (GP 2013) Brod Max Angelo Echevarria, Brod Kevin James Kuan and Brod Ian Vince Uriarte.

The event became even more special because it was the birthday of Brod Laurence Michael Tibon (UP Visayas Chapter) where he spent and finished his college life in UP Mindanao. Together with us that night also was one of the five founding members of UP Mindanao Chapter Brod El Cid Ablang (UP Ilo-ilo Chapter).

The alumni shared their stories to the resident Brods present at the event and gave out inspiring reminders to guide the residents in improving and expanding the Chapters image in the campus. Updates on the existing projects were also discussed like the status of the UP Mindanao Betan Arboretum and Eco-Park and the UP Mindanao Infirmary (Betan Clinic).

Due to the strict policies implemented in Davao City, the Brods had to adjourn the drinking session at around 2AM and continue the talks over a hot soup and carabao meat at Bulca Chong (a famous eatery in Davao City) with Balbacua, Bulalo and Hinalang on the side. At the eatery Brod Dominique John Contrata and Sis Bobbie Joan Bote, who are both products of UP Mindanao Chapter and already part in the roster of alumni dropped-by to see, greet, and shake hands with the Brods

The Brods then parted each other’s ways after dining together one last time for the year. With everybody shaking each other’s hands and saying “Egis! Next year napud Brods, ani japon ta.” (Egis! Next time Brods, let’s do the same thing)
