Big Brothers’ Bounty resumed its awarding of scholarship grants to our deserving
resident members.
As endorsed by the Central Committee, 6 brods each

Special Grants for 1st sem AY2024-2025
The Grove Continental Togs BBB Special
Scholarship Grant was awarded to GP Angelo Del
Rosario’20a (BS Agricultural Economics). He received the peso
equivalent of $400.
This is a special scholarship grant initiated by Brod Dindo Rivera’60. He is
honoring the legacy of a group of brods who struggled academically but had the
perseverance and fortitude to stick it out and earn their degrees. For the
4-year course they were enrolled, it usually took them an average of 5 years and
most summers to finish. The “Grove Continental Togs” were Brods Eto Oliva ’56,
Jess Pido ’57, Jimmy Lagdameo ’58, Albert Chiongbian ’59, Rudy Ortega ’59 and
Dindo Rivera ’60, named so because they rented a house at Grove, where lots of
brods used to hang-out.
Collectively, these brods were devoted members of the fraternity and despite
being care-free, fully enjoying fraternity and college life, they did so in
accordance with the principles of the Beta Sigma Fraternity. All these brods
became very successful in their respective business, professional endeavors and
lives after their college days.
Brod Dindo Rivera’60 is hereby honoring these brods and other Los Baños Betans
who were not quite scholarly types. This is a fitting reminder that grades of
5's do not close the door to a successful life after college. It is how you
follow the principles of the brotherhood, how to be humble but street smart and
apply these as we embark life after college.
This special grant was started in AY2019-2020, with resident brother, Brandon
Velardo’15c as the first recipient. Other recipients were Rainier Ambrosio’12b,
Mico Acosta’18b and Keith Tidon’15c, all former GPs.
Darwin Guerrero’22c (BS Forestry) retained his
Dr. Eugenio Sabalvoro Sr.’53 Memorial Grant.
He received the peso equivalent of $300.
His special grant is courtesy of Brod Bong Sabalvoro’80,
as he honors his late father through the Big Brothers’s Bounty special
scholarship program.
The Sabalvoros are from the Bicol region. Dr. Eugenio ‘Gene’ Sabalvoro was from
batch ‘53. Seventy-six new Beta Sigmans belonged in that batch!
Gene was married to an LB Sigma Betan, Lulu Pontillas’56. They had 5 children,
one of which is also an LB Sigma Betan, Dr. Christina Marie’84. All the
Sabalvoro offsprings are successful in their profession.
Past awardees of this special grant were Brods Dave Martinez’16e and John Gil
Borela’12e.
The Dr. Ed Quisumbing’56 Memorial Grant
was awarded to Nikolais Martin Domingo’24c (BS Agriculture).
This carried a Php21k-stipend.
Big Brothers’ Bounty is honoring the late Ed Quisumbing
‘56 with this memorial grant. Brod EdQ was an avid supporter of BBB. He loved
BBB that he advanced his commitment till first sem of AY2032-2033. He was always
there to offer financial assistance to brods in need and other fraternity
undertakings. Even with his health waning, he attended fraternity events to
enjoy the camaraderie of the brotherhood. He was present in the Midwest ball
last October 2023. It was to be his last.

The Alexander Lustria’77 Memorial Grant is in the offing.
Big Brothers’ Bounty hopes to make an impression to the parents of our residents
that their hijos are in good company and that this is how our brotherhood
nurtures its members. We create a positive image in the UPLB community and
thereby, enticing students to join our fold.
