University Health Service Donation -- 8/07/2019
Last August 7, 2019, The U.P BETA SIGMA FRATERNITY -
Los Baños Chapter together with Dr. Jessie Imelda F. Walde, UHS Director and
Prof. Rocky T. Marcelino, SOAD Head held the Turn-over Ceremony of the Ishihara
Test for Color Deficiency booklets to the University Health Service (UHS). Ten
booklets were given by the fraternity to assist the UHS upon conducting medical
check-ups for the students, faculty members, and staff of the University.
Yearly, the Los Baños residents conducts the activity
called Infirmary Assistance. This activity aims to show the oneness of the fold
to the UPLB community by helping the University Health Service in accommodating
incoming freshmen in their Pre-enrollment Physical (Medical) Examination.
The story behind this donation was that on this
year’s Infirmary Assistance, during one day of the month-long activity, Brod
John Gil Borela ‘12e noticed that the booklet for the color deficiency test used
by the University Health Service was somewhat worn-out. As the day progressed,
brods proceeded to their routine of having a jug-a-lug session after a long day
of service in the said activity.
After a few bottles of alcohol, Brod John ‘12e
thought of reproducing a few copies of the booklet and donate it to the UHS. The
primary idea was not only to show that the fraternity is composed of
kind-hearted individuals but also for brods to be at ease in doing the color
deficiency test for the remaining days of the activity. When Brod John expressed
his idea, most of the brods agreed, that’s why the fraternity was able to
produce 10 copies.
After the turn-over ceremony, The U.P BETA SIGMA and
Dr. Jessie Walde expressed their willingness to conduct multiple projects on
improving the facilities of the UHS in order to give better quality services to
our fellow scholars for the upcoming years.

Betan Ride 2019 -- 8/11/2019
After the first of four activities of the U.P. Beta
Sigma Fraternity Los Baños Chapter’s 69th Anniversary Celebration comes the
Betan Ride. Originally stared by batch ’93 as their silver jubilarian activity,
batch ’94 continues the new tradition.
This year’s Betan Ride started at 7:00 am with a warm
arrozcaldo breakfast and Brod Bruno giving away free Malmon Trail Bikers shirts
as a free souvenir. After breakfast Brod Jonas Tetangco led the stretching and
warm-up routine before riding. About 20-30 bikers rode their way around campus
to APEC and back, while some of the climbing enthusiasts rode up Forestry to
Mudspring. The ride ended at 11:30 am greeting the brods with a hefty lunch of
pancit, lumpiang sariwa, inihaw na tilapia, hotdog and some lechon. About 30-50
brods and sisses came during lunch time to join and celebrate.
As the merriment continued, and the brods gathered
round one long table, the residents and the alumni got to know each other a
little more, with Brod Freddie Fajardo making a stunt by drinking his beer from
a plastic cup hands free, spilling his drink on his shirt.
It was a fun Sunday for the Beta Sigmans, a day
filled with laughter and drinks. As the day grew old, and the sun started to
set, brods started to say their goodbyes and see you next times, ending this
year’s Betan Ride.

Campus Day Celebration 2019 -- 8/13/2019
This year’s Campus Day
Celebration was held on August 16, 2019, on the Friday of the U.P. Beta Sigma
Fraternity Los Baños Chapter’s 69th Anniversary, August 13, 2019, at the CO-OP
tambayan. This annual event was set up with a parachute tent that covers more
than half of the vicinity, along with two 12ft. x 12ft. tents at the parking
space of CO-OP canteen. The seal tarp was also set beside the tambayan beside
the sisses’s seal tarp, where you can see from far away.
This year’s annual Rose Giving was generously
sponsored by Brod Kerwin Santos. There were initially 200 roses, followed by
more roses from Brod Jojo Alejar. All in all, the brods had to give away 400
roses. The Beta Sigmans gave roses to different offices and titas inside the
campus, one of which was the Office of the Chancellor where the titas there were
very much pleased.
After the Rose Giving in the morning, catering from
Mother Em’s was served. The dishes were seafood chopsuey, fish fillet, chicken
teriyaki, and beef caldereta along with some steamed rice and cucumber juice.
The lunch was not complete without the traditional lechon. Two lechon were
served, generously sponsored by Brods Bryan Retales and Barry Jamora.
After lunch, more of the roses was given away to
female college student and professors who walk in front of the tambayan.
Since the brods and sisses have had their fill,
drinks were on the table, sponsored by GSM Blue, Ginebra San Miguel and Primera
Light Brandy. With the help of Brod Kerwin, the brods and sisses enjoyed the
rest of the afternoon.
As the day grew dark, the festivities at the tambayan
ended at 6:00 in the evening, yet the day is not done. Brods headed towards
Bonitos Smokehouse for the afterparty where more brods came, and Brod Barry
sponsoring another round of his lechon. The brods and sisses enjoyed the evening
with buckets of the suave Tiger Beer, and more drinks from Brod Jojo Alejar. The
