UPLB Beta Sigma Celebrates 67th Anniversary, "Patakan" style

Once again the Betan Spirit of PATAKAN was alive and well during the 67th Anniversary celebration of our Los Baños Chapter.

A month ago, the UP Sigma Beta and UP Beta Sigma UPLB residents agreed to have a joint Campus Day on Friday, August 11 to celebrate their respective Chapters' founding anniversaries (August 14, 1955 and August 13, 1950).

There were no registration fees charged and everyone was invited. Alumni brods from UPD and U-belt came led by UPBSF Inc. President Joel Paredes.

The occasion was made more special by the attendance of golden batch celebrators from Sand Pebbles '67a Brods Vic Tupaz, Percy Perez, Dong Rasco and Alex Gabertan.

The alumni brods made a courtesy call to the Office of the Chancellor and were met by Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Portia Ilagan (wife of Brod Toto Lapitan'69) and Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Serlie Jamias (older sister of 80's brods Roger and Edward). Chancellor Fernando C.Sanchez, Jr. (nephew of the late brod Dom Chinte'77) was out of town.

Former DENR Secretary Mon Paje'77d, UPBSF Central Pres. Joel Paredes'73d, UPLB Senior Adviser Chito Protacio'74e, UPBSF Inc BOT Obet Oliva'74e, UPLBBSFAA BOT Henry Adornado'91b, UPLBBSFAA Pres. Ambo Lapis'80c and Muloy Eala'79a led the discussions on the values and responsibilities of fraternities in campus leadership and community building in UPLB.

Vice Chancellors Lapitan and Jamias joined the brods for lunch in our COOP Tambayan and posed for photos with the brods and two members of the Upsilon Sigma Phi Alumni Board who came too.

Lunch were donations of lechon, bilaos of pansit, sausages, etc. The catered food was sponsored by Sand Pebbles'67a and prepared by brod Arnel Bandian'89.

The residents gave long stem red roses to the Sigma Betans as well as to passersby the whole morning.

Alcoholic drinks were held to a minimum in COOP and the jug-a-lug was held in F&M Resto Bar and Grill.
