BOARD RESOLUTION DECLARING 2010: YEAR OF U.P. BETA SIGMA FRATERNITY

WHEREAS, we are a fraternal organization with membership composed of UP alumni all over the world, the bulk of which are overseas residents, with a sizable alumni and resident membership in the Philippines that include our top student leadership in each of the UP campuses;

WHEREAS, it is our desire to bring back the glory of Greek-letter societies in the University of the Philippines which during the halcyon years comprised one of the most important aspects in university campus life that included scholastic pursuits, leadership excellence, and other wholesome and productive activities among the studentry;

WHEREAS, we have in recent years embarked on the restoration of the Beta Sigma Fraternity towards its true meaning -- the Brotherhood of Scholars, through various projects and programs that helped not only the university but also the Philippine society in general;

WHEREAS, it also our desire to augment and follow up on the efforts of our own Philippine-based UP Beta Sigma Alumni in initiating an inter-fraternity alumni association called Barkadahan sa UP as an example of fellowship-in-action and friendship-at-work before their respective resident memberships -- with only 6 UP fraternities a few years ago, and has now grown to more than 20 UP fraternities;

WHEREAS, to the extent possible, we shall dedicate the projects and activities specified in our UPBSFI Work Program towards the successful conduct of this year-wide program. Such programs include efforts as an institution and of our individual members, among of which are the following:

· Scholarship Grants and Academic Pursuits
· Reforestration - Betan Heritage Forest and Environmental Protection
· Social Programs - Relief and Rehabilitation Programs, Medical Mission, etc.
· Publications - (a) Regular Environmental Awareness and (b) New Immigrant (USA) Handbook
· Establishment of UP Professorial Chairs (individual members’ efforts)
· Training programs for our student members on values-development, leadership and nationhood

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the UPBSFI, Inc. fully and unequivocally support the program to hold a year-long “2010: The Year of UP Beta Sigma Fraternity” involving all our residents and alumni members by way of showcasing our different programs and projects within and outside of the UP campuses.
