Betan Heroes Remembered at Bantayog Memorial by Philemon "Boy" Luna
To coincide with the National Heroes Day, Brod Chito Tapawan and I spearheaded the Wreath-Laying Ceremony last Dec. 28, 2013 for our departed Brods Vergel “Butch” Landrito, Edwin Moscoso, Horacio “Boy” Morales, Rizalino “Bong” Medina and Dodong Castillo.
The ceremony was to give honor and thank our fraternity heroes for their significant role in the process of nation building and contributions to history. It was highlighted by releasing a white pigeon to symbolize freedom, justice, independence and nationhood. The event took place at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani in Quezon City and was attended by alumni and resident brods and the sister of Brod Bong Medina.
The Bantayog ng mga Bayani Museum and Library is located at the 2nd floor of the Jovito R. Salonga Building at Quezon Avenue corner EDSA, Pinyahan, Quezon City.

*Note: Of the five brods, Vergel Landrito UPD'68A is the only biography in the Bantayog website. Incidentally it was during my term in 1972 as UPD GP when Butch was killed in a fierce encounter with the military in Botolan, Zambales. His father, Dr. Landrito, a dentist, said that when he went to Botolan with another son he was able to identify Butch's body, that had been buried for many days in a shallow grave, through his dentures and our cigarette mark. The UP Diliman resident body presented Butch's parents with the fraternity pin and a scroll signed by the brods at the funeral wake. His batchmate Mel de Santos made the scroll and silk-screened the Betan logo on it. -- N.Bituin
