TOMORROW IS EVEN GRANDER
WITH
OUR NEW PRESIDENT AND BOARD
OF TRUSTEES

The UP Beta Sigma banners will
fly even higher and higher with the start of New Year 2013 until the
brotherhood’s 70th Anniversary in 2017, and beyond.
Such is this writer’s fearless forecast with the recent election of an
experienced, visionary and dedicated leader who has adopted excellence
as a habit in the way he has conducted the various dimensions of his
life - family, career in the business sector, service in government, and
dedication to our beloved fraternity. Our Beta Sigma Central President
Rolly G. Reyes is backed with a mix of old and new faces in the Board of
Trustees who are mostly known not only by their long years of service to
and undying passion for the Fraternity but also share the same value of
hard work and excellence. Even as I write, a super-team has been
assembled to ratchet up preparations for our Diamond Anniversary.
All Betans the world over are familiar with the name “Rolly Reyes”,
although it would be important for each one of us to know more about
this no-nonsense, creative, results-oriented and hard-driving leader –
certainly one who deserves a geometrically increasing followership
within all levels of our Fraternity as he takes over the over top
leadership of all Beta Sigmans.
Rolly, also known as RGR, is a 65-year old Alpha Male, married with two
daughters, who worked in the broadcast and creative communications
industry for thirty years. He worked himself to the highest executive
positions in this highly competitive, ultra-fast paced business – such
as Manager for Creative Communication of ABS-CBN, then as Managing
Director, and then as Vice President/Senior Executive Assistant to the
President of GMA-7. Ultimately, he became Chairman and President of the
National Broadcasting Network from 2006-2010. He was also a top level
government executive as Undersecretary of Tourism (2001), Undersecretary
for Broadcast (2004), and Undersecretary for Government Mass Media Group
(2006). Needless to say, his experience in these companies covers all
aspects of management that include sales and marketing, finance and
financial controls, strategic planning, information technology,
operations, systems streamlining, modernization, rehabilitation, and
mobilization of personnel and logistical resources.
He is currently CEO of Mobileminds, Inc. – a company that provides media
solutions and strategies to corporations and government agencies and
designs media packaging and marketing of events and personalities.
Perhaps even more important to us Betans is what he has done for the
fraternity before he even assumed this challenging post as President.
Anyone who has been faithfully reading the posts at our website:
www.upbsfi.org knows that Rolly has been responsible for many good
things that has happened to our fraternity for the past several years.
Just to name a few: (a) He was a main figure advocating for the
streamlining of the financial systems and controls at the Central level;
(b) He is largely to be credited to the dramatic increase in
participation and attendance of UP Brods in many activities – using his
mobilization, communication and information skills and expertise; (c) He
was an excellent follower – a very important quality of a true leader –
as exemplified in his obedience and dedication to multiple projects
assigned to him as a member of the Board of Trustees, and later as Vice
President. The results of his contributions are aplenty, as can be seen
in the sterling success of the past two fraternity balls, the
mobilization of logistical and human resources during the medical
missions, Diliman Lantern Parade, and many other projects of Central;
(d) He effectively used his photographic and writing skills to become
the most prolific contributor of our website; (e) He is even an
excellent host, and has allowed the use of his home and office in many
gatherings, welcome parties, and strategic sessions; (f) His presence
was felt in almost every frat function - from national assemblies to
small gatherings such as batch reunions; and (g) He has been one of the
biggest donors of anything from frat projects to personal help extended
to brothers in need.
Rolly says that the vision and mission should revolve around the Betan
Credo. He has lined up the following programs that will define actions
of Central for the next two years, namely:
* The creation of a Management Committee that will oversee various
projects during his 2-year term
* The completion of unfinished business - (a) directory database, (b)
heritage book, and (c) UP Beta Sigma Corporate Headquarters
* Quality (not quantity) Projects geared towards three beneficiaries -
the Fraternity, our Alma Mater and our beloved Country.
* Intensification of our Recruitment in our campuses
* A 2-Year Plan to tighten interconnection of Chapters of the UP System
and the improvement of relationships between the UP System and the
National Assembly
* Encouragement and participation of more and more brothers in projects
and gatherings/fellowship
And finally, our President wants to make this announcement: EVERYBODY IS
ENJOINED TO ATTEND THE FRATERNITY BALL AND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE THIS
COMING JULY ON OUR ANNIVERSARY WEEK. Calling all Brods in the
Philippines, United States of America, Canada, Australia, Asia, Europe
and Africa.
Long live our ties, our legends, our proud history, our camaraderie and
all other things that have kept us intact during all of these 67 years
of Brotherhood!
