Summer Typhoon Special 67b Celebrates 43 Years of Brotherhood

June 30, 2010. Seven of us in the country were able to make it at PARIMEX, kabatch Roy Lising’s new restaurant at Ortigas Center. Present: Roy Lising (of course), Henry Gutierrez, Ferdie Echiverri, Tony Panajon, Torch Manalang, Manny Balangue and myself. We couldn’t locate Vic Palafox in spite of all our search efforts. Not even the UP Beta Sigma Secretariat Office could help us. Four of our kabatch are either in Indiana (Willie Ramos), Chicago (Pamboy Castillo), Florida (Caloy “Caflinks” Las Marias), or somewhere in Canada (our favorite Francis Santos).

I was the first to arrive at PARIMEX. Ferdie was last … but for a very good reason. He had to attend the swearing in of his brother, Caloocan Mayor Recom Echiverri, before Chief Justice Corona. Unlike the recent reunions of other batches, we purposely did not invite any guests. It has been too long (that was in the 70s) since we last met as a Batch and had so much catching up to do.

Grabe ang saya talaga namin! Nakalimutan ko tuloy yung kaisa-isang bilin ni Tatang na kulektahan sila ng membership dues. Papaano naman kasi, itinumba namin yung mga dalang inumin ni Bangge, Tony at Torch, pati na rin yung na sa bar ni Roy.

So sweet and bittersweet were the memories. There seemed to be no ending to the stories! You will notice na abot-tenga ang mga ngiti naming lahat. It was a riot when Torch declared upon arrival that he was not the elected Vice President because mas maitim naman si Binay sa kanya. We started at 5 p.m. and ended just before midnight. I arrived in San Fernando at 1:30 a.m. Good that I had a driver with me.

To our kabatch Willie Ramos, all of us are now aware that you are coming around December and that you want to host a reunion. Call kami lahat, brod!!! Pamboy, kinukumusta ni Tony yung kambing na inihahanda mo for our batch anniversary. Siguro daw may apo na sa tuhod ngayon... Caloy, your "invitation" to hold next reunion in Florida is well received and applauded. Maybe by that time, Torch will already secure his visa.
