offered a Latin song for our dearly departed Brod Sflod Revilleza before the Final Rites Ceremony.

IkeA on the Life and Friendship of Sflod
Revilleza
(as told to Dutch Aragones)
IkeA was devastated to learn of Sflod’s passing. During their high school days
at UPRHS, they formed the school’s first band aka the Junior Tumbleweeds, with
Sflod on drums, Bobby De Mesa on rhythm guitar, Ike on bass guitar, and George
Villegas as lead guitarist. Most of their instruments were borrowed from Betans
in college, like Ben Balbenta, Dandy Gorrez, and the drum set from Albert
Chiongbian. Their first performance was at the UPRHS auditorium as guest
performers during a talent competition, where they received a standing ovation
from the audience after their set. They were later joined by Kevin Byrnes and
Louie Ranit and played at private parties and venues like the Hotel Pilipinas in
Manila, at the Lakeview resort in Los Baños, and school functions in San Pablo
City. They were just high school sophomores!
Like most high school boys of their time, they got into plenty of mischief and
adventures together. During those "formative" years, Sflod often served as the
stabilizing force whenever Ike seemed to spiral out of control.......and vice
versa. It was a time of lost innocence -- a time for "small town girls and sweet
summer nights" at Bobby's Libis Ng Nayon resort. "Thank you, Sflod,” Ike
remarks.
Concerned about Ike’s growing influence from the group, his mother eventually
pulled him out of UPRHS and transferred him to Don Bosco in Canlubang. Despite
the transfer, Ike frequently returned to Los Baños and spent many nights at
Sflod’s residence, where their friendship remained as strong as ever.
Of the four original band members, George was the only one who did not join Beta
Sigma. Sflod and Bobby joined in 1969, while Ike joined in 1971. Ike’s joining
took some time because his mother, the sister of the Gorrez Betan brothers, did
not want him to follow in the footsteps of his uncles. It was only after his
mother moved back to America that Ike finally joined the fraternity in Diliman.
Today, Ike is the only surviving member of the group and remains deeply
heartbroken by the loss of Sflod.
