We have another brod who died on the same day (Jan 5) as Brod Ipe. He is Brod Juan ‘Johnny’ Quijano ‘52, based in Modesto, California. God bless his soul!

Brod JQ was the source of my collection of vintage photos from the early ‘50s era.

All have passed on. L-R: Felipe "Boy" Donesa’51, Joe Madamba’52, Grine Grino’50,

 Johnny Quijano’52, Malding Eusebio’50 and Rudy Ylarde’50.

Trivia from Brod Ador Beltran’51 on Brod JQ’52:
“I believe he was born in the Philippines and brought to the States for high school. Mom was American. Pop was a very well known lawyer in Philippine society - Juan Quijano, Sr.!! He was the lawyer of many schools and companies. He was incorruptible! JohnnyQ full name was Juan Quijano, Jr UPLB ‘55 Beta Sigma ‘52”.

More trivia from Ador on JQ:
“I remember when Johnny came. I was one of the first to know he was an American. He was wearing his HS jacket which had Washington High emblazoned on it. He was surprised that I knew the American idioms. I told him I grew up with American Missionary kids - Bobbie and Snooki. They are probably gone now.

And then he was more surprised that I knew the street lingo. That was easily explained as my blood brother was adopted by a black American company in ‘45 when we were liberated. That was one bloody street fighting that we witnessed. I thought we were in the movies!”

Can’t believe Brod Philip “Ipe” Mercado is gone - another Anos boy. Sad thing is I was just in LB last week but was busy visiting with family. While there, I asked Brod Itoy Palis to contact brods in LB for a get together sometime early February when I’m back in LB. I was really looking forward to meeting LB Brods, Ipe being one of them. We can all agree that although we’re all Brods in the frat, there are Brods that are like our blood brothers. Brod Ipe was like that to me. To begin with, our dads were friends in Rural High School and he was the younger brother of my inaanak, Brod Paulo. We were the ones that started the frat’s Black Shikoku karate klan in LB together with the late Brods Negi Genito and Freddy Fajardo. We were also the charter members of Symbiosis, a Biology academic club, with Brods Itoy P. And Tony Barroso. He was truly more than a fraternity brother to me. What pains me the most is I won’t be there to bid him farewell. I will definitely miss him. Rest In Peace my brother.
