Remembering Jonathan

Brod Jonathan “Inciong” “Yorme”
Inoncencio ‘89 was a native of Makati. He grew up in Guadalupe, in a very modest
house and was to put it quite simply, part of the urban poor. He excelled in
academics however and was an exceptional student leader, and was once the “Boy
Mayor of Makati” hence the moniker “Yorme”. Just like all the brods of the late
80s/early 90s, the tambayan was his home. He was a diligent tambay. He was there
for all the little pieces of history then being made in the name of Fraternity
revival. He fought hard and worked hard as a Betan.
As fate would have it though, Inciong did not get to finish. He got his gf (now
wife) preggy at what must have been 19 (I’m not sure) and I stood as Godfather
along with other brods to his eldest daughter.
Inciong worked hard to provide for his family (there would be 3 more kids), he
started a supermarket merchandizer (taga salansan ng delata at taga dikit ng
presyo), but due to his intelligence and hard work eventually became one of the
senior national managers of the manning agency he worked for.
Of his kids, at least 2 went to UP (including our Goddaughter). All his kids are
more than okay when he left them.
He had a Betan libido too and did the rounds of the Philippines and came back
with stories that will always make me smile in remembrance. One manyak to
another (wink wink).
I will miss you my brother kumpare. I wish we had more time. But I am also happy
that your battle was quick. While we didn’t talk about the end-game because we
wanted to keep our confidence up, I’m sure that this is how you’d wanna go. No
fuss, no big spends, least burden to your family. You carry the heavy loads, not
them. This has been you till the end.
