Heavenly Prayers for brod Vic Pizarro. Our late brod Atong Labadan (my boss at the time) and I often visited brod Vic in Xavier Estates,Cagayan de Oro when we were on business travel there in the early 00s. Their gas station was just beside the main road along the old CDO airport. (Brother-in-law nya din yung owner ng W.Brown shoes & neighbors with brod Hector San Juan’71 UPDil).

Brod Vic would tell us stories of how he would help brods in UPDil during the martial law years, including sa rambols there when he was a CIS/confidential agent, owing to his brother being a Marcos era Navy Admiral. He would often ask about the whereabouts of this & that brod & he was specially fond of his friendship to Brod Douglas M.

The one that sticks to my mind was his morning walking stick with many notches .He would laugh & tell anecdotes about them, It (each notch) was for every poisonous snake he caught & killed in the vast Xavier Estates using just this stick during his walks. Ang image nya sa akin ay ang pagka matikas na tayô & posture ni brod Vic P…a true blooded Beta Sigman.

Brod Vic was a very unique Betan by himself. He was briefly my roommate with my batch mate, the late Brod Mel Gulfin and the late Brod Mon Ronquillo on the second floor of the Internationsl House Dormitory. I used to call him Alain Delon obviously because of his handsome looks. He was one of the most sought after heartthrobs in the ‘60s! He quit college to pursue his military intelligence career. I vividly remembered him as the only Brod I saw who always had a pocket dictionary in his back pocket. And don’t bother to challenge him about English words. You would have a hard time winning against him. Amazingly, he read and studied his pocketbook after he woke up and before going to sleep. I will always remember you my Brother Vic and you will always be in my prayers.

Brod Vic P always carried a box of Marlboro full of “siling labuyo” that served as snack and substitute for cigarettes for the neophytes during our time. One time, Brods Ray Matulac+, Brod Mel Gulfin+ and I, were made to chew a spoonful each of the siling labuyo. The three of us looked like clowns with our swollen lips. Then he told us, I did this because I love you to be my Brods. Imagine we were neophytes then! We wondered how he would love us when we become Brods already!

Allow me to add some incidences of our togetherness w/ Brod Vic P. When I graduated I had a Sales job based in Mla. My link w/ UPLB brods never faded. I always got in touch w/ Brod Vic & also Brods Dandi Gorrez & Cesar Reynoso & at times me & Brod Dandi would bring cases of beers & pulutan while Brod Vic would arrive apologizing for being late 'coz naglaba pa raw. He managed the washing & laundry of table cloths & mantles in the resto that his bayaw owned. Then Brod Dandi wouldl render folksongs w/ guitar on hand and ended up very late driving home. Then Brod Vic moved to CDO & managed his brother's Shell Station. Would visit him late afternoon & from there Brod Hec San Juan would bring us to their house to do a jug a lug & he joined us w/ his house very near our venue. So everytime I was in CDO I make it a point to meet him. After many years in CDO he called & he would be back to Mla. Had some meetings w/ him & brought him along in frat activities. My driver brought him home in QC. Brod Vic drove his grandson to school & back. Had so many more interactions w/ the Brod. Surely Brod Vic, we will miss you! PAALAM!!!!
