Messages
Dear Brods,
Thank you very much for all your support, financially, morally and spiritually.
I brought Zeni last Feb 8 (Monday) to Kaiser emergency at Anaheim. She tested
positive for Covid. She probably got it from me because Jan 29 I came down with
cough, running nose which I took Mucinex and cough medicine and slept the whole
day. I was ok the next day but called in sick. That Monday HR called and said I
had to stay home for 14 days. Since then I had no symptoms.
Zeni was at ICU up to Feb 16 when they had to put her in a ventilator due to
breathing problems. We were able to talk to her all this time but there were
instances that she was incoherent. Doctor said this was probably due to her
sickness.
Today Feb 26 her condition got worse, the ventilator machine is giving her 100
oxygen whereas it was 60 at first, then 75 yesterday and went to 100 overnight.
Yesterday she was given full blood transfusion due to very low WBC count. They
were also going to do endoscopy today but got postponed. Today WBC ok but
there's fluid in her lungs but they are addressing this. Her kidney function is
also borderline. Was also given full blood transfusion due to low WBC yesterday.
Planned endoscopy for Feb 26 postponed because WBC went up after transfusion.
Per Dr Rodriguez update call around 1:40PM today, Zeni still in very critical
condition. Difficulty in breathing due to Covid on her lungs causing ventilator
to give 100 (the max) but her saturation level only 90. Should be greater than
92. Endoscopy cancelled because WBC ok.
Doctor gives me a daily update.
Thanks again,
Ed, Jerome, Jason and Zeni (2/26/21)

This is to inform you that Amang's Zeni has been in the hospital for at least the last few weeks. She contracted the dreaded COVID and unlike Amang who also tested positive but did not exhibit symptoms, Zeni required oxygen and her internal organs are now affected. Amang is fervidly praying for Zeni's full recovery - we all are.
We know that this pandemic has affected
all of us in more ways than one - specially financially where others are
affected more than the next. If you are one of those who has something to spare
and can help a brother in need - we appeal to your generous hearts.

I want to thank all of you again for all the support you have given my
family in our time of need. I am acknowledging receipt of all of Brod Roy's
transfer plus those who personally sent them to me. Sometimes natutulala
pa rin ako sa nangyari. Para sa akin nasa hospital pa rin siya which is true (sa
morgue lamang). She will come home to us after cremation.
Wednesday April 14, 2021 will be the 40th day of Zeni's passing. In keeping up
with our Filipino traditions there will be a mass for her at St Jane Frances de
Chantal Parish Church, 13001 Victory Bl, North Hollywood, CA 91601 at 11:00AM.
We will try to have this event on zoom and will give you the link later.
As of right now her remains are still at Kaiser morgue. My telco appt with Holy
Cross Mortuary will be on Tuesday next week. And this is just to make
arrangements. Too many victims of Covid that mortuaries are backed up. I do not
know when services can be scheduled.

Remembering Jude Rommel "Rasky" Espinelli Rasco,
UP Beta Sigma Fraternity ‘84 A (Los Baños)
by Chito Reynoso
Gone too soon, my friend and brother batch-ka, Rasky . So many beautiful memories come to life when I look thru our memories of the past. Too many for words. I prefer to simply remember you by the following words: Activist. Campus leader. Thespian. Communicator. Leader. Comedian. Romantic. Ladies Man. Sociable-Man-about-town. Campus Personality. Full of Life. Writer blessed with a wicked sense of humor. Eloquent Orator. Amiable Friend to Many. Entrepreneur. Man-of-God. Preacher Man. Evangelist. Pastor. Loyal Brother. Good Friend. Gentleman. Batchmate.
In the recent past weeks, we were just chatting privately, talking about where
our lives have taken us through the years, laughing and joking about the good
ole days. At masaya din nating pinag-usapan at pi-nag planuhan yung mga gagawin
natin sa susunod na pagkikita once this pandemic is over. Life seemed so good.
And you were even with us in our group chats with brod contemporaries, smiling
with humor thru it all , and in good spirits, even in sickness. Making light of
a serious thing, even as you recounted that you were sick together with some
members of your family. Typical you to laugh thru adversity, Brod.
I had expected that in the recent past fews days that you would finally send
your triumphant e mail that you had beaten this thing and recovered. And we
would all be able to attend a happy reunion, albeit virtually, celebrating the
75th year of Our Saga. But, indeed “life is queer with its twists and turns” and
alas, it was not to be.
Naka-kalungkot at hindi na tayo magkikita, Batch-ka. Higit sa lahat, I will miss
our intelligent word fencing and jousts which always end with us both laughing
in tears. One beautiful memory that stands out for me is the time we had come
from a late night jug-a-lug with the brods and walked from the Umali Subd. to
Crossing. We stopped at the balut vendor sa gilid ni Sixto’s hardware and
ordered balut . After one each we decided to just go at it. Hanggang, the final
tally was 7 each between you and me! Afterwards we marvelled at our feat and
burst out laughing all the way as we staggered home. Pitong balut! I also
remember the good times at the Crossing hangout after hours, when we would laugh
all the time up to early morning especially one Anniversary eve where we coined
the name “Phantasmagoric Cosmic Golem “ to refer to you. Beautifully sad and
good memories. What makes these thing doubly sad is the inability to share the
comedy of these jokes with the only person who can get the joke. I can only sigh
and be comforted in the knowledge that you are now free from worldly suffering
and are now in the loving embrace of our Lord whom you have steadfastly served
up to the very end of your life.
To those who never had the pleasure of being with him, Rasky was one of the
gentlest and nicest Brods during our days. He was also as die hard as they come.
Warm, amiable and and sociable, Rasky represented the more subtle, gentler,
warmer, and kinder face of the Fraternity and coming too at a time when the
prevailing Betan dogma was all about steely fists of fury, iron stares and
martial strength. A Communications major and a leader of the Comm. Arts Society,
he was popular with teachers and students alike in the Humanities Department
where he was almost always to be found daily. He was active in the student
movement and co-founded the Pandayan Party a winning party in Student Council
Elections of the era. He was also active in student theatre. All of this plus a
sharp wit and a good sense of humor endeared him to quite a few of the prettier
womenfolk in his corner of the Arts and Sciences. In recent years and up to the
time of his death he lived in Dubai, U.A.E. with his family where he worked in
his own online business and was a Pastor in his church community.
Kaya’t mula sa aming dalawa ni Udangsky ‘84A at sampu ng lahat ng ating mga
nalulumbay na mga kapatid, paalam at hanggang sa muli, Brother Rasky, when we
shall meet again and drink and laugh to our heart’s content in the grandest
jug-a-lug in that great big CO-OP in the sky. See you on the other side of
life’s gauntlet, batch-ka Rasky. Rest in Eternal Peace, Brod.
Chito Reynoso ‘84A
(At pag dating mo dyan, Brod, please do not forget to give our best regards to
the truly good and noble ones who have gone before us, who like you, left us a
little bit too soon, and whom you shall surely meet on your final journey
shortly -- Theodore '79, Thomson '86, Toots '82, Sakyu'81, Thad A'85 and Roger B
'83, to name but a recent few. Like you, we remember them all with love and
prayers).
