Very sad to hear about Brod Dante Ramos’ passing. We
have lost a dear brother in Dante. I knew him well even before I joined the
Fraternity because as a young boy and together with my pinsan Vincent Alvarez
‘92, we were the errand boys at our house in Crossing (late 1970’s) where most
brods would hang out and gather for Mahjong and Pusoy almost every day. We would
buy cigarettes, pan de sal, pancit, lugaw, rolling paper (available pa sa
palengke noon) and other merienda for the brods there and be part of the
afternoon goings-on at Crossing. Dante would be one brod (like Oca Lawas ‘64
RIP) na palaging nandoon, joking and taking the time to horse around with us
kids. He was (together with many brods) practically part of our family at
Crossing. In later years, we had continued to keep in touch thru FB and social
media owing to the distance. I was particularly glad to have seen him,
unfortunately for the last time during the 10-10-10 celebrations. Rest in
eternal peace, Brod Dante and my deepest condolence and sympathy to the die hard
Ramos clan of Betans.

This is a classic Jogs prank... Back in the
70s, mahjong was the game along with some joints going around.We had a quorum at
the Crossing house and the late pareng Oca, Yob, Etnad and me. The smoke made us
all hungry and no errand boys around. So I went to the fridge and found a bowl
of frozen but cooked saging na Saba. Took the bowl to the side table and I
said... “Careful it’s really hot” and nobody took a piece because they could see
the bowl “steaming”. Then I took a piece with a fork and blew some air to the
“steamingly hot” Saba. Then I devoured a piece with gusto while laughing!

Another sad day for the UPLB BSF brotherhood & it
comes a day after the 1st death anniv of Tolits"Pretty Bo"y Dimaano..magkasama
na silang mag bestfriends.
Lumaki kami 79ers & early 80s sa brotherhood with
the likes of brods Etnad & Tolits. Ng ma-injure si Ronnie Dimaano one evening ng
na-ganged up by APO sa field near Men's Dorm, dumating agad ang Ramos Clan sa
house ng Dimaanos sa Crossing & after a skirmish the ff morning when the then
son Education Minister Corpuz brandished a gun while riding his big
bike, determined ang brods. That night mga brods went to the Dorm beside the UP
main gate. Inakbayan ako ni Etnad & told me to pretend GF ako as I wore an old
hoody jacket. We went to the dorm premises & sabi nya may .38 cal revolver sya
but that it was licensed but he was prepared to use it. So ng nag positive andun
ang mga APO eh we went back sa main group & then all 13 brods (who were armed
with pipes etc) rushed inside & engaged.However ng nainis na si Tolits & Kiko
Lapis (silang 2 nasa pinakaharap) kasi nagtakbuhan na pa loob & binabato na kami
eh Tolits said to Etnad na "game na." Ambo Lapis, Theodore Tongacan & I watched
as three consecutive rounds were fired from a shortened carbine rifle. Then
silence sa mga APO . We ran back to the getaway jeep & as each boarded, the brod
would shout 1 & 2 & 3 etc in order of boarding until all 13 were accounted
for...walang tawagan na brod or names but used "pare "to call each other out .
The 2nd semester enrollment started the ff week & the APOs couldn't enroll & 2
got scored, these 2 would later on become presidents of Apo. One even had his
father escort him & the father was holding a clutch bag & they were accompanied
by another man. But Tolits was having none of it & shouted for all to hear
"hindi ka na nahiya kasama mo pa tatay mo!"
Brod Etnad was known as a gentleman & sa kwento sa
amin ng older Sigma Betans one time daw sa mid 70s naglalaro ng billiards mga
brods sa SU ng nagsumbong isang Sigma Beta kay Etnad na nabastos sya ng APO &
yun naki-rambol agad sila Etnad & from then on until now, very much respected
sya ng mga Sigma Betans.

Here’s another enkwentro. Yob, Max, Etnad, Tolits,
et al went on a hunting trip. Target: Magno of Labay. Fueled by “Nig” and armed
with pure guts and tirador, they stormed Men’s Dorm and was met by the hunted
armed with a steel chain. O sige gusto mo ito? Said Etnad sabay saltik sa dibdib
si Magno. Heto pa said Tolits releasing a tirador with lead bullet! Bog! tama
sa dibdib again, sabay atras while shouting kilala kita Dante! “Talaga” Etnad
said. Heto pa ang isa! Takbo ang Labay but got hit by another bullet. Then our
Brods walked away with again spectators just peeping through their windows. Yob
and Max were mere backups.

didn't get to ride but I am sure they have better rides now..and jugalugs with
Brod Tolits, Brod Max, Brod Yob and Pooks.

14. Sabi ko pagaling kami & when we compared expenses eh maganda sa Germany kasi
sagot lahat ng insurance ang medical procedures. His bypass got blocked & he was
operated daw 1st week ng December & that he was under observation. He was
looking forward to go home & attend the next 10-10.
