Danilo Neri, UPD'62B, was from the College of Architecture. I personally remember him as the tall, handsome UP ROTC cadet officer; and later, a dancer for the Filipinescas Dance Troupe that toured and performed internationally many times.

Our generation is getting up there so I have decided to tell this "soft" frat confrontation story with Brod Danny Neri. It was a slow morning because it was either a school holiday or classes were suspended because of storm signal #3. With 7-8 brods we had loaded my car with old Philippine Collegian newspapers to sell kiluhan at a junk shop near Loyola. (With two Betan editors-in-chief, Brods Toti and Jimmy, we were in control). Two carloads of rival frat men slowed down as they passed by and saw us. We shouted and taunted them. They turned around, alighted and approached us. We knew they were hot as we heard that the day before kabatch Edwin Moscoso'65 had whacked one of them in a square fight. I got something from the trunk of the car and said - "Ready brods, tao tao".

Their frontliner (from a wealthy political family in Bicol), burly and as tall but not buff like Danny, barks at us - "Sino ang pinaka-senior sa inyo?"

Not to steal Danny's thunder as, in his ROTC parlance, he "outranked" us all. I wanted to make a point, one of our core principles.

I walk to him and shout back - "Walang seniority sa amin. Kahit sino puede mong kausapin. Ano'ng gusto niyo?"

I don't know if it was the tire jack in my hand (ready to slam on his face) or the "EQUALITY" shock, maybe both, but they turned cold feet (or balls) and walked back to their cars as we jeered. We had even more fun as the kiluhan benta added to our jugalug money and the encounter to our jar of youthful frat stories.

Farewell and thank you, Brod Danny'62B.

Please find attached pics when we first visited Brod Danny. On the right is his lovely wife, Sis Lynn.

More pics of our visit to Brod Danny. Here, nag request siya sa akin ng UP Beta Sigma t-shirt noong first visit namin. Fortunately, I had a t-shirt with frat seal kaya he was very happy with the surprise gift noong bumisita kami sa kanya with our families and tsikitings para naman maaliw siya. I wish I have more stories to tell and more opportunities to get to know Brod Danny. Kaso, he was already bed ridden when I had the pleasure of meeting him. We had plans of visiting him kaya lang di matuloy tuloy tapos inabot pa ng long lockdown dito.

Brod Ed Soliman, UPD'62B, was the UP Diliman Grand Princep in 1965-66 and had a long and fruitful career serving in the Philippine govt. Ed joins his batch mate and co-ROTC officer, Danny Neri, who passed away two weeks ago in Melbourne.

We especially mourn the loss of our Grand Princep, Eduardo R. Soliman, Jr. We remember Ed’s guiding hands and strong leadership from our initiation to our membership in the fraternity. It started with this group picture-taking with GP Ed Soliman and Fraternity Sweetheart Karina Constantino at the Administration Building a week or so after our finals on Dec. 9, 1965.

Farewell Brod Ed GP Beloved.

You know kabatches, I used to greet Brod Edong, GP Beloved to the tune of UP Beloved. That made him smile, which happened rarely.

At the Sanchez Residence, where we lodged during the Baguio CONDA CONFERENCE, he made sure we did the dishes, scrubbed the floor, and cleaned up. Brod Buddy Garbanzos was tasked to oversee. Fond moments with GP Edong.

From the first time I saw our GP as a neophyte, I saw in him authority and leadership. To be honest, I was in awe. Later on, as a brod, though with a rare smile, I saw kindness and compassion. All these memories of him are beyond forgetting. Farewell Grand Princep Ed Soliman, the GP when our Batch - Black Saints ‘65 - saw the light. Farewell…

Remember Brod Ed "Edong" Soliman who believed and recruited Brods shortly after graduation to DILG myself included. Although I only stayed a little over a year as Head of the QC Brgy. Secretariat I learned a lot which helped in my job in the private sector as well as government (BOI). I hv fond memories of Edong as a neophyte and as an exacting Boss who brought out the best in us because he believed, inspired and challenged us. Edong was a leader of men and above all is a true Betan.

May he rest in peace and his family find comfort in the Lord.

Brod Ed Soliman, then President of UP Beta Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association, helped support the UP Baseball Varsity Team in 1981 of which I was a member of. Because of the sponsorship of the Fraternity, we were able to continue to dominate UAAP Baseball. Thanks to Brod Ed during that time that made the UP Baseball Varsity Team a 5 year consecutive Champion. Also it was a start of other Alumni who supported other UAAP sporting events. Thank you, Brod Ed.
