A Tribute To A Departed Father

Reynaldo Jardin Macaraig, DVM
Dec 9, 1940 - Feb 12, 2021

Thank you for everything Dad. You peacefully joined our creator for weeks already, but even if you have physically left us you will always be in our hearts & minds. We are still grieving. However, with the way you have raised us, you surely would have said to us to continue to be tough, start moving forward, & continue to focus on the businesses at hand. And more importantly, "get your respective jobs done."

Thank you for instilling in me & my other siblings (Rowena & Rey Jr.) the attitudes to always be prepared, to have a constant sense of confidence/positivity in handling certain situations, balanced with the right amount of humility & compassion for others. Inspite of your accomplishments, wherein you joined a once-modest family-owned piggery operation & turned it into one of the biggest swine farms in the Visayas-Mindanao Area, you have remained humble & grounded. And despite your patience, humility & compassionate demeanor to your fellow-employees/subordinates in your former company/businesses, & also to salespeople handling you as a client, you did things differently with us. You made sure to dish out your own brand of "tough love" to us regularly, which surely have made us more prepared for life's constant trials & challenges. But most importantly, you are the epitome (very much worthy of emulation) of being a father & parent, for you have always provided for us (incuding your grandchildren) well & will leave having given all the strength you can muster. And that will be part of your legacy with the family. Daddy Rey, Godspeed & rest well. Till we meet again.

Hello Brod Norman. I don’t know if Brods are already aware (I have not seen anything on it on any of our chatgroups) - Brod Dr. Rey Macaraig (UPD ‘58) a fellow Veterinarian and based in Cebu passed away about a week ago. Just wanted to let you know of a brod's passing.

Here’s some info I got from Ruel Macaraig (sharing it with his permission), a contemporary of mine and fellow Ratbu and DVM from the UP College of Veterinary Medicine and son of Brod Rey Macaraig ‘58:
-- “Hi Bro. My Dad passed away at 5am of Fri Feb 12. He was buried last Wed Feb 17. For more than 2 weeks prior to his passing he was already always feeling tired, having to bear the burden of his combined maladies.  Nevertheless, I can say that Dad died peacefully, & he was 80. We were fortunate also to have been able to celebrate his 80th birthday last Dec 9. His remains were in Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels from Feb 13-Feb 16. He was buried on Feb 17 at Cebu Memorial Park (CemPark).”

-- "Hi Bro. I'm finalizing the final details of Dad's tribute. Ako ang gagawa ng tribute & message for both Beta Sigma & Ratbu. Will include also pics from his younger days (graduation, etc.) up to his latest pics."

From my chat with him they are still planning for a memorial event for Brod Dr. Rey Macaraig but will be after some post funeral arrangements they are currently doing, acc to him. This for now and sad news again for Beta Sigma on the loss of a good brod and a respected and renowned Vet practitioner in the Cebu and Visayas Region.
