Messages

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing away of UP Norths founder and first GP Brod Louie Cabaluna DVM early morning of Dec. 26 due to a lingering illness here in San Francisco CA.

Brod Louie Cabaluna had a well established and successful veterinary practice in the San Mateo area. He was a past President of UP Alumni Association of San Francisco (UPAASF), active within veterinary groups/FilAm community/church-based associations and enjoyed playing golf when his schedule allowed. He will be missed.

ACCEPT MY CONDOLENCE TO THE WHOLE FAMILY OF BROD BOI… SO SAD FOR THIS LOSS THIS NEW YEAR. BUT IT’S GOD’S PLAN FOR HIM AND HIS LOVE ONES.

AND, I AM SURE AND HAVE FAITH THAT GOD’S PLAN IS ALWAYS GOOD BECAUSE HE LOVES US.

Mourning the passing away of our kabatch and my cousin-in-law Boi. We did not even had the chance to meet as a family with cousin Mildred (her grandfather and my grandfather were brothers). As per Mildred, she has long accepted Brod Boi's fate but it was a good fight brod. We, too, were hoping that one day you would wake up and join our circle again....but God has other plans as Brod Teddy mentioned. Sleep then now in Heavenly peace, kabatch. God bless your soul and God give Mildred the strength to go on!!!

Cherry and I called and expressed our condolences to Mildred. She said Boi passed away around 3am LA time today Dec 31 at Kindred Hospital. Boi will be buried at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights (2.5 mls from my house). She is still finalizing plans with them.

All our prayers and good memories go with kabatch Boi, starting from the Baguio CONDA conference with CONDA president Mat Defensor after our finals, and will be with us forever. I still remember riding in his Ford Fairlane briefly around the city.

I last visited Boi at Kindred Hospital on Dec. 15. Rest in peace with our Lord, Boi.

Note: I contributed these pictures to the PowerPoint.

Ever dearest Boi Kabatch,

Goodbyes are never easy. It tugs at your heart and gathers all your sleep. Boi, thanks for being my Kabatch. We've been through a lot of trying times and joyous ones enriching our otherwise drab existence. The brods will miss you immensely. Grace and I will always be there for Mildred and family, whatever the problems may be.

Farewell. Love.

Brod Boi Wico 65 upd is gone — to be remembered as one of a kind Beta Sigman, gentle in his ways, classy in his wear — unequivocally debonair in style. He lived a colorful life and being the son of our first fraternity adviser Tio David — BETA SIGMA was at the center of his being, from start to finish - wrapped in his distinctive ways, true and noble to the very core — definitely nothing less!

My and Cyril’s condolences to Mildred and family! Boi will be missed.

Sharing herein end portion of my Eulogy:

“And yes, “Boi will be Boy”, I will remember him with much fondness, for in his humanity – he was mature in a many ways and yet boyish in some, forever young in the way he looked at life. He withstood time because -- in a way, Boi embodied, the spirited Betan ways that defined our young, innocent, energy-filled life we all shared in campus during the golden sixties – never to be outdone. Indeed, those precious years were exclusively Boi’s, ours and those brods in his batch and generation who walked with him-- to lay claim and rightfully own. Never to be taken away.

For Boi – Beta Sigma, in its very essence, was life itself, all-inclusive -- and he never wanted it to change, diminish and end.”

For us Christians, death is not goodby but until we meet again, brod Boi.

Gabby Moraleda

May I volunteer to render and recite the Brother's Credo before the eulogies. Maraming salamat.

Brod Boi invited me to be among the staff writers of The Betan when I was working in LA sometime ago. I had to go back to Canada though.
It was a pleasure, an honor to have met him, it was the first and last time. An honor to have met also Tio David when I was relatively new in the Frat.
Rest in eternal peace Brod Boi Wico.

It was the year 1957 when we were working on the set of HMS PINAFORE at the UP Little Theater backstage where Brod Ado Nora, Frankie Colanta and I were putting the finishing touches on the set and the cast rehearsing on stage when I noticed this boy watching us work. When we concluded our painting the set 1 hour late Fr, he was still there and Frankie gave him a soft drink. He told us that he was going to be a Betan when he reaches the University. Brod Ado was surprised since hearing that from so young a person. We had not even put up the frat seal so we told him we were BETANs from UPLB. When he came back he had a complimentary ticket provided by Jack Jacaria. The boy said that that was for his father who he told us was also a BETAN. Before we could ask him his name he was gone.

It was late in 1970 when I saw and met the boy again. I was then with the Publications Dept. of thee SCIENCE EDUCATION CENTER. We were with REY RIVERA, CYRUS FAGAR and POGS GASPAY working on our NEWSLETTER and this BROD caught my attention. When I asked him he laughed and told me that true to what he told me 14 or so many years back, he was a BETAN. That was BOI WICO.  " Dont ask me for whom the bells tolls it tolls for all of us."
