Eulogy for Brod Reymar Lacaya
Our Batch, 1976-D CannonBall, of the UP Beta Sigma Fraternity, deeply grieves the loss of our Ka-batch, "Brod", "Judge", "Your Honor" REYMAR LACAYA. We, together with our Betan brothers mourn his senseless death from the hands of coward elements of our society who conspired to take the life of our Ka-batch Judge Reymar. His passing will be a huge loss in our pursuit of justice & peace for a civilized society.
We both attended the same undergraduate college in UP. Although we
parted ways after graduation, we never forgot each other. We do
not leave nor fail each other...We Are Brothers! We loved each
other because we shared the same hardships, same pain, same
success and happiness. We laughed and cried together, we bonded
with each other, and we are truly proud of ourselves. We were
proud Betans. Reymar in particular was so proud of his Betan mark
that he often gazed at it while gently rubbing it with his right
hand.
Many of us remember Reymar's warm smile and happy nature. He
always brightened our day and kept us loose with his southern
accent that we learned to embrace. But most importantly, he was a
dear brother to all of us.
Reymar attended UP Manila where he took up undergraduate courses.
He studied Political Science and we were classmates on several
Political Science & Economics subjects. His basketball prowess
made him popular especially among the ladies. While we were
rookies in the Fraternity's basketball team, Reymar was always a
starter who was among the first five. He was agile, athletic, and
scored a lot of points, even with the ladies. We won the
championship! He was the star player of the team that featured
more veteran brods in terms of leagues played. He was also in the
UP Manila team that placed loftily in the UP Intramurals, and was
their star player too.
While Reymar was a popular figure in college, he never neglected
his studies. He was "scholarly". He completed his 4-year course in
3 1/2 years. I remember he graduated as an Octoberian, as we call
it, the first semester of his senior year. Reymar was a man of
principle. I recall that he garnered high grades, which was not
easy to accomplish, considering that he found time to drink and
bond with us on many late nights, that sometimes dragged into the
wee hours of the morning. We went home together as we lived in the
same area.
The last time I reconnected with Reymar was sometime in June 2017,
on email. I knew that he was an RTC judge then. Reymar mentioned
to me that he was a heavyweight then at 105 Kgs., that was over
220 pounds. I guessed his wife is a superb cook and he loved to
eat. And as a loving person, he even reminded me to take care of
myself and my health. Just recently, we were even planning for a
batch reunion. We are truly saddened with his passing...too soon!
Reymar would have surely done more for our country in his chosen
profession. He is a rare breed in his field...Dedicated, Honest, &
Passionate.
We sincerely sympathize with his wife & children, the rest of the
family, and all the loved ones left behind by Brod Reymar. We look
forward to the day when justice for Reymar will be attained and we
are confident that his death will not be in vain.
Finally Your Honor, all of us, your Ka-batch appeal for leniency
for not being present before you in this Final Rites of the Beta
Sigma Fraternity.
Ka-batch Reymar, we bid you farewell and may you rest in eternal
peace.
Rest now our Brother!

Good morning. Brod Reymar was just re assigned 1 month in Liloy,
Zamboanga del Norte.
After court hearing when he was about to enter his service vehicle
located at the back of the bulwagan he was shot in the head at
more or less 3pm. He was brought to nearby hospital but declared
dead on arrival. The killer passed thru the back of bulwagan by
breaking the enterlink fence of the building. Liloy, ZN in a zero
crime rate so people and police officers are so relaxed in the
area.
Work related gyod brod. He assumed cases in the previous judge
full of controversy. When he took over, he decided strictly on the
merits.

Ka batch Reymar was the star player of UP Manila’s basketball team
in the UP Intrams. May he rest in eternal peace!
I can attest to this. Ka batch Reymar was proud of the cigarette
burn on his left hand. He was “scholarly”, too, he completed his
four year degree in 3 1/2 years, then was among our brods who
enrolled at the College of Law if I am not mistaken. The great
thing about him is he was always with us sa inuman, sa tambayan. I
recall too that he was a Betan warrior, he was among those brods
on the roving team when we engaged both the Sigma Rho and Paalps
simultaneously in that 1977 rumble.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT
The UP Beta Sigma Fraternity strongly condemns the killing of one of its members, RTC Judge Reymar L. Lacaya. As a magistrate since 1999, Judge Lacaya has embodied the fraternity's ideals of integrity, loyalty and service. His senseless killing is a great blow to the judiciary's duty of dispensing swift justice to those who need them most. We implore the government and all law enforcement agencies to apprehend the culprits and give justice to his family. His death should not be another statistic to unsolved crimes against members of the judiciary. Being once a dispenser of justice, Judge Lacaya deserves swift justice. Anything less would be a disgrace to his memory and the institution he once served with diligence, honesty and competence. Our fraternity brod Reymar Legados Lacaya, UP Diliman Batch 76D, was a TRUE AND NOBLE BETA SIGMAN.
