Ray had a stroke Tues last week. He is in the ICU of The Medical
City Greenfield, Santa Rosa, Laguna. His condition has
deteriorated. Mortality rate as per doctor is 70 to 80 percent.
Ray is in coma. Wife Gina and sons are arriving from LA tonight.
Wl hv family conference with Ray's doctors on Thurs. Pls continue

years strong.

grieve, we should also celebrate the life well lived of my Kbatch
Brod Ray Bantegui. He will be missed specially as our batch
celebrates its 50 golden years anniversary. His laughter will ring
loud and clear in our reunions as we reminisce our lives in the
fraternity. He and brod Dan will be there in spirit watching over
us making sure that we have lots of fun and we do not misbehave in
celebrating with the Golden brods.
Rest in Peace now brod and pray for all of us brods whom you have
left behind. Please do not be in hurry, we pray, to see us , brod
Ray. All of us have lots of promises to keep still. We will bring
the single malts, the shiraz and the chilled bottles of gin and
beer when we finally see you in the distant future, hopefully. Our

I am so saddened by this news, on this Thanksgiving evening here
in Rocklin. Ray was a dear, dear friend. He was generous of
himself in so many ways and yes fun loving. He was his own man.
The years never drew our friendship apart. We always seemed to
understand that changes in our lives were bound to happen, and we
accepted them.
Tanya and I are so saddened and pray that Ray now rests in the arms of our Lord. We condol with Gina and Ray's sons, Brod Bernie and the rest of the Bantegui clan. Paalam, mahal kong brod. I am honored to have known you.

Like IkeA and others who had shared college days in
the fraternity with Ray, we will truly miss him even as we are
reminded of our own mortality. Ray, Alex King and I were the UPD
resident officers at the top in 1971-72 and we
admittedly had some rough encounters on my watch. I hope Bernie
won't mind telling me this. The Bantegui house
at Sta. Catalina St. (?) was the designated HQ at "war time"
during rumbles (we had 3) and also the disco lounge
cum pot/love nest at "party time".
I was just looking at the 2009 UP North Grand Reunion in the
website with guest speaker Founder Rico Arranz. I clipped
the pictures of Ray during the hospitality night (motif was the
hippies era, I believe), the frat ball, the picnic and the trip
to Yosemite by some brods and pasted them below. You can also go

I will be out of the country for a week. If you have any stories,
anecdotes, photos to share on Ray (also pics at the wake),
please send to me or WillieV. I will work on his web memoriam as
soon as I get back.

opportunity to get to know Brods more extensively, who joined the
fraternity after my four years with brothers [1994-1998] at
Diliman and Los Banos. I am the sole Betan in Victoria, Canada,
and I am able to only attend occasional frat reunions. Brods,
could you share photos of Brods who pass away when you give us the
sad news so that we can have some visual memory of them [make sure
to identify them in the photos, if it has many Brods, as in our
twilight years it is difficult to determine who they are.].

Yes, we have lost. We will never again share sweet fellowship with
our brother Rey in this life. The magnitude of the loss eludes our
words. But the loss is never beyond Jesus’s words: “Father, I
desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me
where I am, to see my glory.”
We trust that our loved one is better off with the Beloved Son of
God. Jesus will turn our sorrow into great joy (John 16:20). Jesus
grieved himself so that we will never have to endure hopeless
grief in the face of death.
