It is a very sad day, indeed, for the Fraternity to end the year 2017 with the demise of
another dedicated Betan. I am fortunate enough to meet with him a couple of times while
attending a fraternity ball in Canada. Brod Boygee was soft spoken and quiet yet a very dedicated
Betan. He will surely be missed. May his soul rest in peace.

I felt sad to learn about my batchmate’s demise. I have been worried about his health during the past few years. I would often ask brods who had met with him to send me pictures of Boygee. The last one was from Brod Wally R.
I will continue to pray for him.

In behalf of the officers, board of directors and members of the UP Beta Sigma International, our sincere condolences and prayers to the family of Brod Bibiano "Boygee" Ganza UP'62A who passed away December 29 in Ontario Canada.
May his soul have an eternal peace in the Kingdom of the Lord.

Memories of my close practices and hard work outs with Brod Boygee under the strict guidance of late Master Brod Johnny at Area 11 came fresh and almost in chronological way after knowing his passing.

I have to pause and pray…

He was part of my martial arts upbringing since we were in the same house with our master in Area 11 for more than a year. Brod Boygee was among the most advanced senior students of the UP Beta Sigma Kungfu Karate Klan when I re-entered the school in 1965.

I learned from him not only critical techniques taught to him by Master Brod Johnny Chiuten but other traits as a practitioner in the art: the needed humility when conquering, handling of defeat with resolve, compassion to friends, and sharing with others.

We both craved for our own perfection in martial arts under out strict mentor but our competitive attitudes were always friendly no matter the outcome.

The last time I saw him was in 1990 when I visited Toronto while I was doing a marketing survey on the goat meat consumption in Canada. This was for a related project on Boer Goats for my Goat production venture.

I called on him and he sent Brod Bart Gacad to pick me up at Super 8 hotel where I was booked for a week.

He then offered me to stay at his house to which I obliged. I had enjoyed the food and his family hospitality. My visit included a memorable visit at the Toronto Zoo with his family. The highlight of my stay was for some very serious dissections of martial techniques we both had “mastered” as taught by late master Brod Johnny F. Chiuten, Jr.

About three years ago, I talked with him upon learning that he had some “serious” health issues. He was reassuring that everything was all right and he was doing well.

I have wished that I could have connected with him more.

I will sadly miss a friend, a humble and proud brother in the fraternity and in the UP Beta Sigma Kungfu Karate Klan.

Thanks for sharing, Brod Noli. Boygee indeed personified what Brod-Master JC had instilled rather passionately into the hearts of those who aspired for higher realms. There were lesser hard-headed mortals like me and my peers in the golden 60s who could only watch in awe and inner joy as more serious and engaged Betan martial arts warriors like you climbed the demanding, punishing barriers.

We bid adieu to Brod Boygee and remember...

Somehow there is that silent, inner joy and gratitude for having been an audience to such depths of humility that can stem only from warriors with pure hearts of peace, die-hard confidence and goodwill....
Tight abrazos, Brod!

(I apologize for getting carried away...)

I was able to speak to Boygee's wife Tessie and his son Justin this afternoon and extend to them the words of deep sympathy and the
prayers of the brods. They were both very touched by the love and support. The other night when I was talking to Tessie at the hospital,
when all the children were around, she said that even with the morphine and other painkillers, Boygee was still suffering. Over the phone,
I could his cries. Now the Lord has given him eternal relief and we pray for him and his family.

Some brods have expressed their wish to send personal words of condolence. These are Tessie's contact info: email 'tess.ganza@gmail.com';
cell# (647) 646-4178.

Justin said that he will send to me his dad's memorabilia. I told him that they will be included in the International website's 'In Memoriam'.
In the meantime, let me just append a couple of shots taken at Toronto in Sept. 2016 (posted in Chapters>Southern California>Jopet's Dragon
Tiger Kung-fu Club Celebrates 40th in Toronto) when Jopet Laraya, Bart Gacad, Bogs Cabanatan and I had a lunch reunion with Boygee and Tess.

P.S. I most especially remember Boygee from our makiwara-hitting and karate practice sessions in Area 11 and being his partner

in kata/sparring exhibitions in the campus. I am very thankful to Boygee for "adopting" me letting me stay with him at his townhouse

for a few weeks until I found my own place when, as a single new Canadian immigrant, I moved and drove solo cross-countries from

Vancouver-SF-LA-Toronto in the 70's. Here are some "oldies" shots.

Now married and living in LA, Cherry and I visited Toronto and Boygee's young family in 1980. As usual, we had fun sharing food, drinks, frat jokes and stories like old times.

In our times at UP most especially at the old Johnny-Boygee haunt at Area 11 where all of us came to practice kung fu every Saturday morning, it is so very sad to know that the old maestros residing there are gone now.... I am so teary-eyed to let Boygee go, such a sweet and caring brother to all of us then young Betans. Thinking about it now in these moments of loss and pain, I am saddened to note that the latter generations of brods did not get to know our beloved Boygee, one of our true treasures in the 60s. I am sure they will all agree that he was an outstanding pillar of the fraternity's glorious past......am sending a famous picture of the frat's more famous karatekas circa 1966 with the original caption I made then, right after I "borrowed" the picture from an unsuspecting Jun Advincula.

Thank you Brod Bobby Manansala for your brief but emotion-filled account of Brod Boygee. Truly, he is another frat icon of humility, obedience, work, tenderness, and dedication to the martial arts, and for that matter, one of Master JC’s favorites. The Brods who came after him surely missed the experience of his company. Yet Boygee with his passing is now bigger than life. By his death, he is now elevated to the ranks of our frat legends and his name is forever etched in our proud history.

May God bless and keep you Brod Boygee.

Kabatch Tatang, Bobby Ahas - your words embody the very same emotions that I have re the passing of brod Boygee. We were lucky that we had his company and knew him personally in Diliman, more precisely in Area 11. Rest in peace, brother. No cheers.

Laila and I last spoke to Brod Boygee when we phoned him on December 2 to greet him on his birthday. He was in his hospital bed with his wife, Tess, by his side. While he was weak, he was in good spirits. He was awaiting the arrival of his children with the birthday cake, but said they would not be able to enter his isolation chamber. Tess explained to us his serious health condition. We ended the phone call with my expression of confidence that we will see him when we visit Toronto in June 2018.

Laila and I were indeed fortunate, with the dedicated help of Brod Bart Gacad, to have dinner with him, Brod Bart and their wives in October 2016. We had a grand time and even sang "Cheers, Cheers to Beta Sigma" in the restaurant as we drank beer like the good old days at Diliman. Precious memories. We enjoyed his warm fraternal hospitality and that of his family a few times when we visited Toronto in the 1970s and 1980s.

Brod Bibiano "Boygee" Ganza was a role model for me when I joined the fraternity in 1964. He was the guardian of the coffers that academic year and in 1965-66, when I served as master of the rolls. He was also a member of the International Club of U.P. when I was the club president and in 1966 he was the deserving recipient of the club's "service" award.

He proudly wore his fraternity pin, as our credo states, "knowing that it represents all that is good and noble in man." His kinship towards me, a non-Filipino, was "predicated on sympathy, understanding, friendship and equality." I am missing him deeply. I take solace that Brod Boygee is now resting in peace.

Hi Tito Norman,

On behalf of the Ganza family, we would like to extend our thanks to all of my father's Beta Sigma Fraternity brothers. We received a tremendous support for the 6 weeks my father was in the hospital. Tito Bart, Tito JoMari Azzaraga, Tito Art DeVera and Tito Bogan visited my dad many times and kept in contact with my mother, Tessie,  regarding my father's condition almost every day. We received phone calls from many brods including yourself, Ben Pires, Eding Hizon. I apologize if I'm missing anybody else.

We are extremely grateful for each and every brod that came to the wake and performed the "Last Rites" ritual. It was an amazing ceremony and my father wouldn't have wanted it any other way. He was a proud Beta Sigman and days before he departed he sang the "Betan Drinking Song" during Tito Bogan's last visit with Tito Jesse (unsure of last name). To the Beta Sigma Eastern Canada Chapter, you have been like family to us. Growing up, we saw you on a regular basis at meetings and parties, however after his minor stroke it became less frequent.

If you or any brods have any stories about my father, I would love to hear them. He has told me many stories about the late Johnny Chiuten at Area 11, my Ninong Jopet Laraya, my late Ninong Papu Leynes, the late Boy Morales, the late Banz Banez, Noli Nolasco, just to name a few. He spoke of his many memories of his years within the fraternity and was always excited to share some of his experiences.

Thanks again for the support.
Justin (youngest son of Boygee) on behalf of the Ganza family.

We have all the love and respect for your dad. He was an honorable and compassionate person and brother. Boygee will always be in our hearts as he joins our Creator in eternal life. May God bless us all.
