Pls say prayers for our beloved Mario Pasamba who passed away this morning in Chicago. He was 77. Sad day for us his close brods and sisters.

Brod Mario Pasamba, another Brother who was once a permanent figure of the UP Betan Tambayan in the 60s, has passed on. The Lord has claimed so many of us during these months of April and May 2015, so let us pray to Him, "Panginoon, Kung puwede lang ay tama na muna. Allow us some space to grieve for our beloved deceased brothers, although we understand that your ways are mysterious and are always for the good."

I will always remember Mario as one who brightened a group with his happy disposition, wit and original jokes that included Diiman campus life and personalities. Some of his stories I have myself passed on not only to brods but to other UP graduates as well. He was the shortest among a Betan barkada that called themselves Amboys, but he was a stand-out nonetheless.

Fate woud have it that we never met again since the campus days in the 60s, but I rest in the consolation that my memory of Mario will be that of a youthful, confident, simpatico and humorous brother.

It has been an honor knowing you, Brod Mario. See you again at some later time, and if the Lord above allows, maybe after two decades.

A tribute to Mario Pasamba

Mario Pasamba. Dead at 77. Diminutive as he was, he was a big icon in the U.P. Beta Sigma fraternity. Joined the fraternity in 1958, he earned the reputation of being a "terror". Every neophyte who went through him was terrified. Some even quit rather than be "manhandled" by this Master, who was perceived to be the "Curse of Area 5".

He was a "Terror" indeed. But in a funny sort of way.

Few knew, however, that behind this seemingly stone-cold facade, there lies a kind and gentle heart.
He would do anything for a brother. Yes, he was rough at the edges. But who among us is not? Yet he was compassionate, caring, and loving. He was always there to extend a helping hand to a brod.

His passing brings tears to my eyes. We know that every life has a beginning. And every beginning must also have an end. But when the time is up, it is very hard for us to accept and let go.

And so Mario, my brother, sleep well and rest in peace in the arms of our Creator. Your are now in a better place.

As it is time for us to lay you to rest, we will bury your body but we will not bury your soul; we will bury you mind but we will not bury you memory; we will bury your lips but we will not bury you words of wisdom; we will bury your eyes but we will not bury you vision; we will bury your hands but we will not bury the fruits of your labor; we will bury you heart but we will never bury your love.

Now I bid you farewell but not goodbye. Someday, with God's mercy, we will see each other again. And for the last time may I say "Cheers!"

This is indeed a sad news....I hope you still remember me.

Anyway, I am right now in Chicago. Dumaan ako sa initiation kay brod Mario Pasamba and he used to make me spell his name in "Caton" or Spanish Alphabet. I would like to pay him my last visit......I would like to attend his viewing visitation at the funeral parlor. Having said that, please send me the funeral parlor where his body was entered to. Alternatively, please send me a phone number of his wife, or his children whom I could get in touch with, for the funeral details.

Thanks,

This is a very good eulogy which addresses the character but not the resume of the person. I like the comparison between the flesh and the mind. What a similie!

Also share the well-expressed sentiments of Brod Pet on Brod Mario Pasamba. I remember Brod Mario as the perennial leader in the legendary snake dance of the fraternity during the Christmas parades in Diliman.

May he rest in peace with our Lord.

What an eloquent tribute to Brod Mario Pasamba. During our times as a neophyte,
he was feared so much that whenever he was around, nobody even dared to glance
his way. His alias alone - black whip - will send fear. However, never did I see him laid a
hand on any of us neophyte. I believe his reputation as a "terror" was not much for
inflicting physical pain but rather for giving a powerful and effective indoctrination.
He was indeed a giant in the Beta Sigma Fraternity. He was well respected and loved
by those who are lucky enough to know him.

May your soul rest in peace in the eternal kingdom of God.

Farewell, my brod.

When the story of the UP Beta Sigma glory days is written,
Brod Mario's name will surely be there: Eme A Ere I O.
He certainly made me proud to be a Betan.
May the Lord keep Brod Mario in His arms.

Brothers Cloy Belleza, Long Labanan and I are meeting at the funeral home (please find the address)

Blake Lamb Funeral Home/103rd
4727 W 103rd St
Oak Lawn, IL 60453
(708) 636-1193)

to pay our respects to the late brod Mario Pasamba, UPD"58, at about 5PM today, May 25th, of 2015.

Brod Mario, ten years after joining the fraternity, had frequented the Diliman campus, and had regularly attended the fraternity's initiation rites to applicant Betans. I experienced his "terror" initiation and indoctrination styles that left an indelible mark in me, hence, I became a "die hard Betan"*:) happy....I am sad that we lost one among my few "ka-tribu" in height brods.

Kindly shoot out an email to all, for their info, and please extend the invitation to anyone available and willing to join us.

Hi All,

Ann, daughter of MP, had shared that he had wanted a simple, no frills ceremony. So the family will do a little prayer memorial tomorrow, Tuesday, prior to cremation which he wanted. We will be mourning with the family then. Ann explained that MP had simply grown tired of constant dialysis.

'Pe apa eme sam be-aba' has joined the rest of the orig group of Area 11 faithfuls. Oddly, he and Bobby Pecson were known as the Big & Tiny shocktroopers under Johnny C. They have gone home together. There must be a rumble up there?

Truly, we will miss all those guys!

I met Mario Pasamba through Brod MIke Manguera. They were roommates. He was a very jolly and friendly "barbarian " He became one of us but I never expected him to sort of follow my footsteps. a "terror" to the neophytes. I know he was a giant of a man but in a very sweet and harmless way. He was always full of smiles and laughter. For decades I did not see Mario until the 30th anniversary of the U.P. Beta Sigma of Northern California. He attended my induction as Grand Princep and when I saw him, it was with disbelief and much grateful appreciation. Our relationship goes way back with Nitoy Tagle, Enching Rodriguez, Dennis Navarro, Boy Ramos, Eman Crisostomo, Biboy Bautista, Mike Manguerra, Tito Garcia, Pong del Coro, Gus Agustin, Mon Tongko. He was part of the "Tisoy Group".
.
Was he saying goodbye to me when I saw him last? I will never know. God knows the pain I have right now for losing a very dear brother.

Brod Dave,

You've shown your brotherly love to all of us as I experienced two years ago when I went to your induction as GP and this weekend. Your expression of sadness in losing Brod Mario Pasamba is another example of that. You and Sis Mercy are wonderful and kind people.

Brod Norman,

Please find the attached pics taken last May 25, 2015 when we attended the family memorial visitation for the fallen brod Mario Pasamba. From the left is brod Ruel Labanan, Aquinas'87; brod Carlos Belleza UPLB'64; Mario, Jr (son); Toni (widow of brod Mario); Ann Marie (daughter) and me.

Brod Mario was born on Sept 28, 1937 and died on May 23, 2015 after long battle with kidney and heart problems...we pray for his eternal repose. Blake Lamb Funeral Home located in Oak Park Illinois did not have the body for viewing; the reason, according to the family, is to comply with the wish of brod Mario. Also, I was told by Toni that brod Mario desired to keep his passing on a low profile that's why only a few brods were informed, and on the last minute. Also, the family did not want the photos taken near the displayed picture frame of brod MARIO. We were finally informed that cremation will be on May 29, 2015.

Farewell brod eme A ere "MAR" I O YO "Mario" Pe A Pa ese A eme sam be a ba Pasamba.
