Betan Final Rites

Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director, Inc. at 1175 South State Street, Dover, Delaware

THERE WERE FOUR BROS FROM NJ, PET GRAJO, MEL GULFIN AND JOE LLAMES AND NY REPRESENTED BY MANNY CAYETANO, TED QUIJANO, JAMES STA MARIA CURRENT GP OF THE NY CHAPTER AND WAH LEE.

THE FAMILY OF LILING WAS PLEASED AND IMPRESSED WITH OUR BETAN RITE FOR LILING. THE BETAN RITE WAS OUR FIRST PERFORMANCE AND WENT WITHOUT ANY HITCH.

I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT THE LEGACY OF LILING WAS TO OPEN THE DOOR TO OTHER UNIV OR CHAPTER BSF MEMBER. INCLUSION RATHER DONE EXCLUSION. HE ALSO HELP ESTABLISHED OTHER CHAPTERS LIKE CHICAGO BSF AND TORONTO CHAPTER.

I ASKED LILING WHY "BSF EASTERN USA". NOT NEW JERSEY/NEW YORK CHAPTER HIS REPLY WAS "I WANT TO GIVE A HOME TO ALL THE BROS SCATTERED ALL OVER THE EASTERN SEABOARD FROM MAINE TO FLORIDA".

Brods,

It is with a sense of deep sadness that after speaking with Brod Manny Cayetano a few hours ago that, according to a close relative of our brother Liling "Jesus" Padilla, one of the pillars of our fraternity, is in a very serious condition. He is suffering from urethral cancer and being confined at the hospital in Dover, Delaware. His condition is so serious that the family does not expect him to be with us any much longer.

It is with mixed emotions that I write this letter because on one hand, losing him would be devastating for me personally. But on the other hand it would be a relief for me that if it turns out for the worse, it will be the end of his sufferings.

Whatever the Good Lord has in store for him, it is all according to His plan. That being said, let us all pause for a while and say a little prayer for Liling that God may always be on his side.

The contact address is available to anyone. But until the time the family says it is alright to get in touch with them, let us respect their privacy.

Incidentally, Liling was one of the founding brothers and the first GP of the Eastern Chapter of the Beta Sigma Fraternity.

Paki forward na lang sa ibang brods.

Maraming Salamat po.

Brods,

This is now in Flash News (www.upbsfi.org). Will update as details on wake and funeral arrangements come in.

Incidentally, a large group of UP SoCal brods and wives (including myself) flew to NY and attended Brod Liling's induction as the GP of the Eastern Chapter at their first frat ball at Sheraton Hotel at 53rd and 7th in NYC in July 1988.

My personal condolences... Norman

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Brod Liling. He was instrumental in the formation of the Beta Sigma Fraternity Midwest-USA in 1991.

I will share the sad news with the Midwest Brods.

I join the whole Betan Community in mourning the loss of a very dedicated and loving Brod.

I offer my prayers for his eternal repose and for peace and comfort for those he left behind.

Fraternally,
--Lem Michelena,

I first met Liling during the 80"s. Zeni and I picked him and his wife at LAX for our frat ball. It was still early for hotel check-in so they stayed at our house in Harbor City to relax.

Then years later, he would visit Southern California and Brod Clem Apeles was his companion. Now they will probably see more of each other.

Our condolences to Brod Liling's family.

My deepest condolences to Brod Liling’s loved ones, relatives, and family. Brod Liling was one of the most, if not the most, broad-minded, open-minded, humble, and compassionate brods I have ever met!

Remember Brod Liling well circa 1957, UPD; one of the most well-bred, generous, mild manner, a model of decorum, quiet and reserve UP Betans that I have met. Goodbye Brod Liling, I am sure a place is reserved for you in the Mansion of the Lord. May your soul find Eternal Peace. Appreciate knowing you.
