LANDMARK DECISIONS REACHED AT THE UPBSFI, INC. MEETINGby Ike Araneta 71b (Silver
      Strife)

More than 50 Brods met at the
Hyatt Regency hospitality suite during the meeting right after the UP
      Southern California dinner dance.
After giving a brief history on the birth and development of UPBSFI,
President Willie "Tatang" Vergara proceeded to inform the body about the
status of the 16-point UPBSFI Work Program. Highlights of the meeting are
the following: (a) A moratorium on drawing new Malmon designs until such
time that guidelines on the matter are developed and disseminated; (b) A
unanimously approved resolution encouraging all Beta Sigma units to
undergo a process of consultation and determination of feasibility of any
project involving any of the UP campuses even before such projects are
launched, where such projects will require the solicitation of funds from
individual UP Brods; and (c) A unanimously approved resolution obliging
all alumni and residents to obey the Philippine Hazing Law.

Towards the end of the meeting, Brod Rolly Reyes was asked to report on
the Endowment Fund. The President announced that the UPBSFI, Inc. will now
join the Mother Chapter in this particular endeavor. Highlights of the
Fund are as follows: (a) Fund raising events will target corporate
sponsorship but much needed voluntary team support from all brothers will
be likewise tapped and solicited; (b) A group INDEPENDENT from the UP Beta
Sigma Alumni Association will create this trust fund. Each
volunteer/contributor will be a trustee equivalent to a seat or the
equivalent of 1 vote - PHP 50,000; (c) The group will receive and process
meticulously all incoming project proposals according to priority, merit,
relevance and substance; (d) A detailed procedural guidelines and internal
control system will be in place before the opening of such account. Any
group, batch, or chapters may combine resources to buy one trustee seat or
      more.

Everyone is enjoined to read the attached Meeting Minutes of September 9,
      2010.

Needless to say, it was a very productive albeit short meeting.

 Dear Brods,

We are in the midst of mourning the loss of a very special and much loved
      brod, the legendary Johnny Chiuten.

Much as I would not like to impose upon your solemn reflection of the
legend's life, I am duty bound to submit to you the minutes of the last
general meeting, held on September 6th after the UP South Fraternity Ball.

You can read at this your leisure as it is not our top priority especially
at this time of grieving. Nevertheless permit me to highlight certain
important sections of the minutes that will require your attention because
of the long term implications of the issues addressed and the resolutions
passed. The presidents report and the attendant discussions. Part two is
also an important section in that it reviews resolutions previously
passed. Please pay attention to part three of the minutes that contain the
resolutions taken and approved during this general meeting. Last but
equally as important is the report made by Brod Rolly Reyes on the
proposed Endowment Trust Fund being sponsored by our Mother Chapter, which
now combines the efforts of UPBSFI as discussed during our International
      conference last May 2009.

With this I will leave you with the thought that our fallen brother who
largely figured in the revival movement that we started in 2001 gave
himself once more to the training of our young residents, despite his
waning health. We hope that the revival of his art and more importantly
his unselfish dedication to our brotherhood will serve to remind us that
we are all beneficiaries of his greatest legacy...his love and service for
      UP Beta Sigma.

I only met him once, and yes indeed he unmistakably loves us all. Godspeed
      Brod Johnny.

 Fraternally,
 Ike '71b
