Dear Edsel and Rolly,
I will write but please accept this in the meantime.
We continue to be humbled by the Betans' tireless, selfless and untiring efforts as concretely shown during the 4th Tito De Santos Medical Mission. It was well-attended, organized and serviced so many.
The Medical Mission is a step in the footsteps of the Lord! May He continue to guide the Betans in such a meaningful manner.
Kindly extend our utmost gratitude to all Betans for the thoughtful kindness and caring help they have extended to our countrymen. Their work underlines the dignity and miracle of another human being.
Maraming, maraming salamat!
Very warm & grateful hugs, Viching de Santos, 2-16-10

PUSO sa PUSO A Valentine Celebration of UP Beta Sigma 6:00 P.M., Sunday, February 14, 2010 Executive House, UP Campus, Diliman, Quezon City
U.P. Beta Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association, Inc. of Southern California 4th Tito De Santos Medical and Dental Mission Expression of Appreciation Edsel Arceo ‘73
Medical mission was the most profound excuse I could give my wife, Mayette, why I was traveling to Manila with Brods Nonoy Bautista and Aman Carolino. Sabi nga ni Brod Johnny Singh, si Edsel meron medical mission kasama si Nonoy at Aman? Baka naman ibang klaseng mission ‘yan. But in all seriousness……
Aling Anita, that was the name of the last person in line. And after talking to her for a while, I said to myself, she was what this was all about, and the rest of over 3,500 people. When I first learned of the estimated number of recipients for this project, I must admit, I was concerned. The question in my mind wasn’t whether it could be done, but rather would there be enough time to do it. And today, I got the answer. The answer was yes! And so I am humbled and at the same time overwhelmed by the support of all you brods here in Manila and those who traveled from Los Angeles to lend a hand. This project from its conception a few months back, I knew would not be easy as this would be the first time this medical/dental mission would be held this big. I had a vision of the great number of recipients. I was worried for so many things, until the outpouring of support started flooding my e-mail. Though I had never doubted our collective capacity, I needed the reassurance and encouragement. Nakakataba talaga ng puso mga brods ang pinakita ninyong pagtulong at pagmamalasakit. Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat.
It is with gratitude to the Lord that we give our time, talents, and resources; and it is with His blessing and the strength He provides that we will continue to do so. This was Brod Tito De Santos’ vision of helping others through a medical/dental mission three years ago. Our dearly departed Brod Tito is looking down on us all smiling, may you rest in eternal peace Brod as I’m happy to say that we have just successfully completed the 4th Tito De Santos Medical and Dental Mission. Viching, your unwavering support of this project will keep it going and it is the inspiration that has brought the brods in magnanimous giving that will keep it alive. I am proud to be part of this brotherhood with a purpose engaged in service to others. This is what truly empowers our kinship. Even for only a day, although just a glimpse, it was a privilege “helping others as they continue to meet each of their needs with dignity.”
“Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something.” This statement teaches us all the importance of believing in a cause and contributing to what we believe in. My wife, Mayette, whom I wish could have been here with us joins me in a very heartfelt appreciation to all of you. With our combined efforts, we will realize our commitment to our journey of making a difference and making the year 2010 as “The Year of the U.P. Beta Sigma Fraternity.”
