Brods Lead the UP Alumni Association in San Francisco

Brod Manuel “Pogs” Gaspay was inducted as the 2006-2008 President of the UP Alumni Association of San Francisco (UPAASF) last Sept. 16, 2006 at the Marriott Courtyard at Newark.  Four other brods were also inducted as incoming officers of the association – Babes Ignacio as Legal Counsel, and Manolo Banzon,  Chito Cabaluna, Vic Gacusan, and Gabby Moraleda as members of the Board of Directors.  Four tables of UP Beta Sigmans led by Boy Ramos and Bong Beredo, the outgoing and incoming Grand Princeps of the UP Beta Sigma Alumni Association of Northern California, had fun at the Induction Ball. Brod Frank Mamaril, the incoming 2007-2009 President of the UP Alumni Association of Greater Los Angeles,  also flew up from Southern California to grace the affair.

The UPAASF has been busy in the past year raising funds to support various requirements of the UP system.  It already provided $10,000 to complete the rehabilitation of the Infirmary of the UP Health Services System. It has also contributed $2,000 to the project to restore the UP Carillon Bells, and another $2,000 to the Typhoon Milenyo Fund of UP Los Baños.

This year, the UPAASF will busy itself raising funds for a Professorial Chair and in hosting the biennial UPAAA General Assembly and Convention to be held at the Hilton San Francisco from Sept. 1-3. This year’s convention marks the beginning of the UP Centennial  celebrations in America.

UP Beta Sigma of Northern California Fields a Strong Bowling Team

Other chapters watch out! The UP Beta Sigma of Northern California has put together a world-class  bowling team led by brods Vic Gacusan and Titing Valdez.  The team showcases  Paolo Valdez, son of Titing and former Asian Bowling Champion.  In its maiden competitive play, the team captured second-place honors in the UPAASF Bowling Tournament held at Fremont last Nov. 19, 2006, behind a 227 high-individual average and 181 team score average.  The tournament champion edged the UP Beta Sigma team by only one pinfall.

Will the Southern California bowling aficionado brods heed the Northern challenge?  Watch the showdown in Sacramento in May.
