Medical-Dental Mission and Launching of the UP Mindanao Infirmary: A Betan Clinic by GP Bert James Millendez
The year 2010 is the Year of the UP Beta Sigma Fraternity. In line with this, the UP Beta Sigma Fraternity conducted a Medical-Dental Mission at UP Mindanao campus last February 26, 2010. This however was supplementary to a bigger, long-term project of the brods, which is the UP Mindanao Infirmary - a Betan Clinic. This facility is dedicated to serve the medical needs of the UPMin constituents as well as the members of the community.
This project was spearheaded by the Federation of Beta Sigma Fraternity Alumni of the North America Chapters headed by Sonny Pagador and its construction was then closely supervised by UPBSFI Mindanao "Ninong", Brod Anggie Angliongto, driving several kilometers every day from his home to the site to ensure that the project would be ready by inauguration day.
The Medical-Dental Mission started at around 9:00 in the morning and ended at around 2:00 in the afternoon. Together with volunteer nursing students from Brokenshire College, Barangay health workers from Mintal were also present and helped facilitate the Medical-Dental Mission. Over 300 beneficiaries were given medical and dental attention.
The launching of the Infirmary was a solemn ceremony that was celebrated by Brod Fr. Bing. UP President Emerlinda Roman and UP Mindanao Chancellor Gilda Rivero graced the launching of the first Betan Clinic.
Among the UP Brods who attended the launching include Sonny Pagador, Anggie Angliongto, Ruben Pascual, Frank Mamaril, Bing Garcia, Elcid Ablang, Brod Dr. Khalil Guinomla, Rico Salapong, Adel Oviedo, Danny Abad, and the UPMin residents, among others. The activity was concluded with a dinner sponsored by the University and a small fellowship afterward sponsored by ‘pass the hat.’ Work, work, work… Cheers!
