Seven UPLB Brods Receive BIG BROTHERS’ BOUNTY Scholarships for First Semester AY2008-2009 by Dutch Aragones '78b
After careful deliberation by the resident body, the following residents are recipients of Big Brothers' Bounty for 1st sem AY2008-2009:
Felizardo Almares'06f Each of these scholars received PhP11,000 last August 13, 2008 during the Los Baños Chapter’s 58th anniversary celebration at the COOP Tambayan. On hand to give them their grant were UPLB Beta Sigma Alumni Association President Leo Balagot’69a and the resident’s Grand Counselor, Calixto “Wow” Protacio’74e. Supervising the ceremony was Antipas “Jojo” Criador IV, BBB coordinator. Big Brothers’ Bounty is a project of UPLB (including VetMed) alumni Beta Sigmans that aims to help boost the recruitment of new resident brods through provision of scholarship for deserving brods. This incentive program is our commitment to make our Fraternity truly a Brotherhood of Scholars. It is also through this that parents of the residents may have a good impression of the UPLB Beta Sigma Fraternity.
From the recommendation of the resident Grand Princep and the Body, the group awards US$250 per semester each selected brod. The recipient will continually receive this stipend as long as he is able to recruit one new resident brod within two semesters. He must be able to enroll and pass a minimum of 15 units in every semester. A high average grade is not required.
With an
initial membership of 13 BBB boosters from North America, the project
was launched in the 2nd semester of AY 2003-2004. Eric Catangay‘02c (BS
Applied Math from Bataan) was the first recipient. Soon after, more
benefactors joined paving the way for more residents to avail of this
opportunity. To date 124 brods from all eras, from all over the world
are committed to sustain this noble project on a long term basis.
