The opening of the artworks exhibit of Brod Jess Abrera, UPD'64 was held last February 16, 2010 at the Sining Makiling Gallery at the D. L. Umali Auditorium, UPLB campus. The exhibit is sponsored by the UPLB Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) with the cooperation of the UPLB Beta Sigma Fraternity and Sigma Beta Sorority alumni and alumnae associations, respectively, including the resident brods and sis'. This forms part of the major activities of 2010: The Year of the U.P. Beta Sigma Fraternity.

Those who attended the opening program of the exhibit were: Dr. Maritess Yee, OICA Director; Jun Yee, UPLB artist-in-residence; and Dr. Aristotle Alip, founder of the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development, and who was also the guest speaker. The opening program was also well attended by students, staff, and faculty of UPLB.

Brod Jess is the creator of the comic strip A. Lipin. As a children's book illustrator, he was awarded the Grand Prize for Illustration (1982) for his book Handyong, by the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY). He started his career from his political cartoons in the Mr. & Ms. Special Edition, an alternative press from which the readers eagerly awaits his political cartoons against Marcos before the EDSA revolution. He was awarded Best in Humor (1986) by the CMMA for his editorial cartoons and comic strip.

 At present, Brod Jess is the editorial cartoonist of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. His exhibit, Kathang Sining ng Isang

 Kartunista at UPLB runs up to March 30, 2010.
