A Never-Ending Love Story by Rolly Reyes’66
Rain poured all day in the metropolis, schools suspended and workers sent home. It failed to dampen the insatiable hunger of these UP Betan souls, coming from all directions to find their way and congregate in a place called Discovery Suites (aptly named to connote our eternal quest to rekindle our sealed kinship).
First in so many years, UP Beta Sigma Fraternity held our 63rd anniversary Fraternity Ball highlighting the testimonial for our venerable Brod Dr. Teddy Topacio as 2009 National Scientist. Equally a momentous part is the formal oath taking of current Diliman Betan resident officers led by Grand Princep Elmer Reyes graciously inducted by our beloved founder Brod Rico Arranz. A blend of proud and beaming faces lit the function room diligently, propped up by an excellent combine of good food and nostalgic music. The pinning ceremony was a huge mirror where we all saw a reflection of ourselves when we were all young and just starting to trek life's winding pathwalk.
Congressman Brod Mat Defensor brought the house down with his usual brilliant wit and sense of humor when he introduced Brod Topacio. Brod Teddy delivered his message to everyone - a graceful reminder that the Betans ruled UP before because of its image of academic excellence.
Familiar and new faces (too many to mention) glittered the memorable night masterfully planned and executed by Brod Ruben Pascual. Through the night, a mix of laughter and hearty chats came from vocal chords of many decades creating a warm blend of notes in symphonic cadence.
Truly....a never-ending love story.

Dear Brod Yay,
I just had to write you this short email re your Father.
Tonight, we celebrated our 63rd birthday at the Discovery Suites and the main event of the evening was HONORING your father. When your dad came up to get his lifetime achievement award from Brod Rico Arranz and Brod Mat Defensor (Chair - Testimonial Committee), while Brod Ruben read the dedication on the plaque, it was so obvious that your father was sincerely proud (not for the award itself), but because it was an award given to him by his Betan brothers. I saw it on his eyes and his smile. I am quite positive that he was 110 percent humbly proud and emotional when Brod Ruben was reading the dedication. And from the message your father gave to all of us, it was from the heart that he conveyed how the fraternity played a role in all his achievements, and how he continues to strive for excellence because that is what our founders envisioned from the start and so he did ....
I was humbled by your father's message and how he showed his genuine love for the fraternity.
Cheers Brod,
JJ Jayme, 7-17-09
