Brod Rolly Reyes - a government reformer and crusader

... and a die-hard Betan crusader, too!

Brod Rolly Reyes speaks at the 45th Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union General Assembly

Bali, Indonesia, Nov. 20-21, 2008

From the U.P. College of Fine Arts, Rolly Reyes UPD'66, Chairman and President of the People's Television Network, Inc. (National Broadcasting Network) and concurrent Press Undersecretary, has drawn high praises for his efficient overhaul and management of the Philippine government-owned news and information network.  Let the recent critiques from Philstar and Manila Bulletin (below) speak for Brod Rolly's sterling performance.  Prior to his current post, Rolly also contributed his advertising expertise and media prowess in promoting the Philippines nationally and internationally through his exceptional stewardship at the Department of Tourism.

Coming from the  Diliman batch aptly named "The Spirit of '66", Rolly continues to exemplify the Betan spirit by sharing his ideas, time and talent in perpetuating the name and existence of the UP Beta Sigma Fraternity in our alma mater's campuses.  He meets regularly with similarly concerned alumni brods mostly in informal roundtable tete-a-tete full of the Betan spirit (and other milder "spirits" as well, I suppose) in pursuit of our fraternal goals.  In fact, UPBSFI Prez Willie Vergara revealed that Rolly has accepted the invitation to be one of the panel speakers at the Grand Reunion and Fraternity Ball of the UP Beta Sigma NorCal Chapter in San Francisco in May '09.

On a personal note, Brod Rolly remains humble and friendly in being "just one of the guys", as you can see from the photos below.  He will always find the time to meet and/or host visiting overseas brods whenever they're in town.  Likewise, when he flies over to this part of the world in his official functions, he never fails to share a jig or two with the Betan homeboys.

Mabuhay ka at isang katutak na CHEERS, Brod Rolly !!

DEBT-FREE: Government-owned NBN-4 has paid off its outstanding debts inherited from three previous administrations, according to the network’s chair and president Rolly Reyes, who is concurrently Press Undersecretary.

Reyes attributed this to sound fiscal management, the optimum use of resources and the administrative skill of general manager Joey Isabelo. Reyes himself has had extensive broadcast experience, having held high posts in GMA Network and ABS-CBN.

After assuming office in February 2007, Reyes overhauled NBN’s structure to support the operational needs of a 24/7 news and information channel.

The administration has pumped in money to retool the network and make it the Information Channel. New transmitters and digital-ready studio and ENG equipment for Mega Manila and provincial stations will be installed by the first half of 2009.

PROGRAMMING: Reyes is bullish about his network’s performance next year after reformatting 70 percent of its programming grid.

“We will have a fully enhanced and competitive program lineup by the second half of 2009 focusing on educational and public service shows,” he said.

He added that the coverage of last year’s 4th SEA Games installed his station as the undisputed leader in sports coverage.

In March 2009, NBN-4 will host a major environmental event participated in by 30 countries in cooperation with the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union.

NBN-4 has forged alliances with other government broadcast stations in Asia, primarily with the Korean Broadcasting System, NHK of Japan and CCTV of China.

Merry-Go-Round
Return the shoes all shined

Under the leadership of its new chairman and president Rolly Reyes, the People’s Television Network, corporate name of the government-owned NBN-4, is quietly showing up its resources for a strong positioning in the broadcast industry.

Since taking over the channel last year, Reyes had been able to free NBN-4 out of past creditors inherited from three past administrations.

***
The station’s grid has been reformatted. New program offerings will be on tap by the second quarter of next year that will trigger a full market launch by June. Reyes believes that the government channel can do more on education and public service and can further excel as a one-stop shop for news and information.

As the only government TV network, NBN-4 has a built-in news gathering resource in every barangay and street corner. NBN’s transformation has become visible as early as last year.
