Jess Abrera wins CMMA 2009 "Best Editorial Cartoon" Award Brod Jess Abrera, UPD'64, from the UP College of Fine Arts is now a Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) Hall of Famer having previously won the award three times in 2006, 2007 and 2008 for his editorial cartoons and comic strip "A. Lipin". Jess works as the editorial cartoonist of Philippine Inquirer and has done several illustrations for children's books. Among his many awards: the Grand Prize of the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) for his illustrations for "Handyong" in 1984; and the National Book Awards for Cartoons in 1997 for "Pinoy Nga!" and "The Best of A. Lipin: Cartoons Strips, 1985-2000" in 2007.
