UP Manila (Padre Faura) Revival Program

Dear Members of this August Body and Council of Elders:

Allow me to please brief you on what is happening with The UP Manila Revival Program, which Brod Jayjay Jayme is the Ninong of this campus.

Yesterday, Brod Jayjay apologized that he is not able to assist in the Residents Cup II because of his current role to revive our UP Manila Beta Sigma, the birthplace of the fraternity. The “start-up cost” will be tremendous, and let’s hope that Jayjay’s strategy will work.

Considering that Jayjay and his family already shelled out P0.4 million to the construction of the UP Manila Gateway (without any financial help from the frat), I suggested to him that it is only proper for him to focus his financial contributions on his role as Ninong of the UP Manila Beta Sigma revival project.

Allow me to please encourage you, members of this august body, to read Jayjay’s TWO MESSAGES, the first one addressed to the UP Manila alumni group – a googlegroup set up by former BOD Bong Beredo with the intent to support Jayjay in this difficult quest.

The second letter of Jayjay is MORE GOOD NEWS. For details, please read on.

I am sharing this to all of you as a background information to a possible assistance to the UP Manila Revival Project using a part of our remaining excess funds. Of course, we will be expecting Brod Jayjay to submit a formal proposal to the Board following the requirements we have established.

Here goes the letter (below).

Dear Brods of U.P. Padre Faura Google Group,

Just to give all of you a quick update:

The "JRJ Foundation - U.P. Manila Beta Sigma Chapter" has constructed the first phase of the U.P. Padre Faura (CAS) main vehicular entrance and side pedestrian gate. The JRJ family contributed to the construction of this gate … This was done to ensure that our beloved fraternity will get the full support of the Dean and admin of U.P. Padre Faura for our recruitment activities. Also, located in the front gardens of the campus is a rock, with a dedication to the Jesus R Jayme Foundation and our fraternity.

I have had 4 meetings already with Dean Imperial and several more meetings with associate Dean Jo del Mundo and briefed them on our recruitment program. In two of the meetings, Brod Gerald Alo attended with me. I have had 2 meetings with the resident Brods of U.P. Diliman with Brod Arranz, which was was also attended by Brod's Gerald Alo and Cedric Gloria. Collectively, they suggested that if (those who will cross-enroll in PFaura) had a place like a "room and board", they may stay overnight instead of commuting which is heavy on their pockets and time consuming. This is one of the reasons, according to them that past recruitment initiatives has failed.

As for the new recruits, I already have acquired one scholar from the Philippine Science H.S. who is ready for this year's enrollment for 2010 and 2011 school year. We need to build the fraternity around this scholar. And if you will allow me to suggest, I would like to see at least the first 3 recruits to be scholars.

I will fund the first scholar. I will fund the "room and board" for so long as it takes.

I have already checked out 3 units around the area.

Also, outside of our recruitment initiatives and activities, I have been asked and I accepted the "CHAIR" of the U.P. Padre Faura (CAS) Rehabilitation and Modernization Committee for :

a) 18 classrooms
b) construction of a new Student Center
c) modernization of the cafeteria

I believe that with me as Chair, and with the JRJ Foundation, our Fraternity can be a leader inside campus activities.

After looking at the student population and environment for the last year, I think that by having scholars as our new recruits, we can build on and around them and increase our numbers this way. I also am budgeting for community involvement programs by our new recruits. We will lead the way of example to the other fraternities.

So with all your support, involvement, and suggestions we can see this through.

Cheers to all Brods,
JJ Jayme, 3-25-10

Yes Brod, please share the photos. Dad's foundation is pledging one classroom in the name of U.P. Beta Sigma Fraternity. The average cost of rehabilitating one classroom is P75,000.

This will bring it up to modern standards with audio visual equipment. So our Fraternity Seal will be displayed as a donor of that classroom. So any pledges from U.P. Brods for that classroom, I will advise where to send the funds, if they wish to participate. A formal letter of Appreciation will be send to each donor.

So far I have pledges already from several major corporations also.

I am having Stefan Tong and Brod Atty. Albert Bacungan with Associate Dean decide if a separate account for this purpose should be opened. They are studying it.

Cheers,
JJ Jayme, 4-16-10
