National Scientist Dr. Ted Topacio, Jr. Receives DOST Award

National Scientist Dr. Teodulo "Ted" Topacio, Jr., UPD'49 is an awardee at the 9th General Membership Assembly and Scientific Seminar under the Department of Science and Technology held on March 1, 2017 at  the Veterinary Pathology Resource Facility, UP Los Baños. The alumni and resident brothers attended the event to share in the honor and festivity of another proud occasion for the university and the fraternity.

 

Brod Ted is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, cum laude graduate of UP, obtained his M.Sc. from Michigan State University and Ph.D. degree from Purdue University specializing in microbiology. He was the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, UP (1964-1969) and was appointed Professor Emeritus.  His scientific leadership led in the formulation, drafting and passage of the Philippine Anti-Rabies Law (Republic Act No. 9482) in 2007, which aims to eradicate canine rabies. He was recommended by the National Academy of Science and Technology to the Order of National Scientist to the President of the Republic of the Philippines and was bestowed this highest award for a scientist on June 17, 2009. 

 

Joining Brod Ted '49 in the illustriousTopacio clan of UP Betans are son Cesar "Yay" '77, grand nephew Errol '09, and soon-to-be DVM from UPenn - Yay's son, grand son Luigi '10.
