About Jesus R. Jayme
Written by his Children
From a very young age, Jesus R. Jayme knew that his life would be one of
consequence. He was born on January 14, 1922....
Jesus, or Jess, or Jim ... finished high school in three years and graduated
from UP High in 1939. He then went on to take Liberal Arts at the
University of the Philippines. The outbreak of the war in 1941 and the
destruction of the school buildings forced him to stop his studies. In
1946, he returned to his schooling at the UP, this time enrolling in
Business Administration. He achieved university and partial scholar grades
and earned his Business Administration degree in 1948.
While at the University, he and a group of young thinkers, under the advice
of Professor David Wico (Tio David) allied themselves and formed the UP
Beta Sigma Fraternity in 1946. Jesus R. Jayme .... or "Jessie James", became
its first President.

Jesus started his career as a credit clerk at the Philippine Bank of
Commerce. He moved on to be credit investigator and appraiser for
Equitable Bank and subsequently organized their union. His business
abilities helped him rise within the ranks of the financial scene in the
Philippines. He became the Manager of the credit department of Prudential
Bank and moved on to become Vice-President of PCI Bank.
He eventually organized Provident Savings Bank and became its executive
Vice-President and General Manager. While at this bank, he established
Provident Securities Corporation, which developed Provident Villages in
Marikina, Rizal.
He was a member of the Manila Stock Exchange and was on its board of
governors for two years. He was President of JRJ and Co., a stock brokerage
firm.
THE JESUS R. JAYME CLAN
His wife, Leonor Angeles, was a graduate of the College of Dentistry, also
at the University of the Philippines. They married in 1951 and had six
children. In 1974, Jesus moved his family to Canada. This was a big
change and a permanent one. He officially retired from business in 1976
and started a new and most fulfilling career ...... as Lolo to fourteen
grandchildren.

We are so proud of them."

A Personal Message....
One of the happiest times of my life were my days as a brother of the
University of the Philippines Beta Sigma Fraternity. Today is another
happy occasion for me.
My eldest daughter found the Beta Sigma website, located the article about
and picture of the founders. This brought me mixed feelings of excitement,
nostalgia and memories of the closeness, camaraderie and brotherhood among
the members. And when Mr. Willie Vergara, your Grand Princep - Northern
California, opened the door and handed me the opportunity to be a part of
this once again, I could not refuse.
The fraternity, and its growth into a powerful and moving campus
force...into the global brotherhood that it is today, is our accomplishment.
I recall that the UP Beta Sigma fraternity was originally organized to
foster close brotherhood and loyalty and challenge its members to academic
excellence and social consciousness.
Today, as members of the UP Beta Sigma USA, you should be proud to belong
to an organization that continues to uphold the noble ideas and doctrines
of this original group of men that I was so privileged to be a part of.
Time cannot change what is good. You now live in an era where constant
change is altering our way of life. This being the case, you must
therefore always strive to meet the challenge and continue living the Beta
Sigman credo.
I may be a founding father but, first and foremost, I am a Beta Sigman and
your brother. I commend you for "preserving and upholding the UP Beta
Sigma identity and culture". Truly "no Beta Sigman stands alone".
Wherever we are, whenever we meet, we will greet each other - "BROD".
I extend my best wishes to the new officers of the UP Beta Sigma of
Northern California, and I congratulate the UP Beta Sigma USA Chapter on
its inauguration. I thank you for giving me the honor of sharing this
special and historic day with you.
(sgd) Jesus R. Jayme
