About Lyle
By James Madduma 94B

If there was any resident Beta Sigman in UP Diliman who exuded non-conformity back in the 90's, it would be none other than Lyle Sacris (94B). He was the anti-thesis of the typical, norm-complying students. He was a character of his own.

I met him when I was a neophyte back in Summer of '94. Of nine applicants, six of us survived. Among my batchmates, he and probably, Jayvee Camacho, were very "different-looking" -- pierced ears and noses, chains, Mohawk-hairstyles and punk/grunge get-ups. The rest of the 94 B Sui Generis (James Madduma, JerryBongco, Alan Montecastro, Gerald Maceda) though, were good-looking catholic boys. (In fact, Raffy Hidalgo '86 once said with some trace of envy and pride that: "Guma-gwapo na ang mgaTabets, ah.") He he he! Nevertheless, we stood up for unity and diversity in front of our masters.

Like many of the brods, Lyle started with a difficult, quota course in Chemistry. Not that he was academically unsuited for the College of Science, but he has too many talents to fit in that field. He was, after all, an honor student back in Claret High School. Lyle's one strength is putting words into a well thought-of yet delightful cadence -- without doubt, he is a good writer. He is also a bassist for a band that played gigs in many of Metro Manila's bistros and his group is a regular in the Fraternity's Harana Sa Dorm activity in the 90's.

As fate would have it, he was eventually led into the College of Mass Communication. He then studied Filming where his creativity was neither bound to test tubes nor flasks. From there, he found his passion in the celluloid world.

He has won the Best Director awards in the NU Rock 2000 and the MTV Pilipinas 2001. While still a student, he garnered a first prize and an honorable mention in the 2000 Gawad CCP for Alternative Films and Videos.

Note: Lyle was the 2nd Vice GP of the UP Beta Sigma Fraternity in 1997.
