UPBSFI Board of Directors Get-Together, 2006

Hi Board,

There is a change in the date of the BOD meeting/get-together from Nov. 4-5, Sa-Su to Nov. 11-12, Sa-Su.  When I called several hotels/motels in San Pismo, I was told that the Wine Festival in nearby Avila Beach on the Nov. 4 weekend makes it harder to get rooms.  They suggested the Veterans Day long weekend instead.  Some of you also said that you might want to stay there longer so the 3-day weekend works better.  Btw, Veterans Day falls on Nov. 11, Sat. and companies usually give the Friday, Nov. 10, as the day off.

As for the venue, I've contacted several hotels for a group booking but they require a 2-night minimum for the weekend.  But I got around that by making my reservation at Spyglass Inn online (www.spyglassinn.com) for Nov. 11 at $138, 2-queens.  Spyglass has meeting rooms and is about 2 blocks from the beach access.  It is 3-star rated and sits on top of the ocean front bluff.  There is inside-dining at Spyglass Restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  It also has an ocean-view dining heated sun deck.

You also asked me to check on Kon Tiki Inn, adjacent to The Steamers Restaurant where we had a great lunch last year.  Sorry, they are sold out.  However, just a block away is Sea Crest Resort, 2-star rated.  If you call Laura at the front desk 800-782-8400 the rates she quoted for 2-queens were $100 for no-view, $110 for partial-view and $130 for ocean-view, for a 2-night minimum.  Marie Callenders is inside the hotel and it also has conference/meeting rooms.  If you do reserve at Sea Crest, ask for a meeting room just in case.  I also requested a meeting room at Spyglass for Sat. night.

You can check the other hotels in Pismo Beach and in adjoining areas like San Luis Obispo or Grover Beach online at hotels.com, expedia.com, etc. I suggest for those who are going to book your individual reservations as soon as possible.  Let me know soonest if you can make it.  I hope, of course, that we can have a last fling together to enjoy with our families before the busy holiday seasons start.  Another attraction starting October is the Monarch Butterfly Grove just south of Pismo where thousands of giant monarch butterflies cluster in the Eucalyptus and Monterey Pines in the area.  Admission and parking at the North Beach Campground is free.

I will call Dairy Creek Golf Course in San Luis Obispo a week before and book for early tee times for Nov. 12, Sunday.  I will need a count for the players, so let me know too.

Like last year, we extended an open invitation to the UPBSFI membership.  Please pass this notice to the brods now not in this list, especially in UP North and UP South, where likely attendees could come due to proximity.

Looking forward to see you all there!
