Brods,

Have not touched bases with you for some time, so here’s my warm greetings and brief update.

It’s only a few more weeks to our 60th Foundation Day of July 14, 1946 and into the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in our beloved alma mater, the University of the Philippines, from July 7-14.  I enjoin all of us to support our National Chapter and to enjoy and participate in this milestone anniversary and reunion.

There’s a number of activities and happenings in this week-long affair starting with the ecumenical services and motorcade on July 7 and culminating with the Awards Night and Jubilee Ball on July 14.  In between, there’s the Barrio Fiesta for Balik Betans, the Betan Family Day, Rockways, Beta Sigma Art Exhibit, Fellowship Golf Tournament, etc., etc.  Logon to the International website (www.upbetasigma-international.org) which has a link to the National Chapter (www.upbetasigma.info) to see the calendar of events and other Jubilee matters; or you may also go directly to the National website.

However, to browse and to order the Diamond Jubilee items and memorabilia, like The Heritage Circle Membership, Jubilee Yearbooks, Advertorials and Jubilee 4-Events Tickets, these are all presented in the International website (www.upbetasigma-international.org).  Just click the logo which will open up the Jubilee Offerings page.  The UPBSFI has opened a PayPal account, a secure US global network of more than 55 countries and regions that buy and sell in multiple currencies, where you can conveniently charge your purchases using your credit card or bank account.  A sample PayPal shopping cart is shown below.  The service is free and there is no added cost in using PayPal for the buyer as the commission fee is absorbed by the seller.  Btw, the International has placed a full page ad in the Jubilee Yearbook so you

should see that when you get your copy.

Just a friendly reminder that you may also remit your annual $25 membership through PayPal (www.paypal.com) using the account name of U.P. Beta Sigma Fraternity International.  Only a handful have paid for 2006, so please help us keep the International alive and strong.  Use Paypal or mail your membership to our treasurer Edsel Arceo at 22374 Lavender Bell Lane, Woodland Hills, CA 91367

I will be attending our Diamond Jubilee with my wife and son, as I had also done during our Golden Anniversary in 1996 and the First International Homecoming in 1990.  You can bet that we I will be sticking a lot of notes in my memory cell and taking many pictures for posting in our website when we get back.  We’ll be busy.

A bit of sad news, especially for those who had known them.  Two Diliman brods had passed away recently: Antonio “Matti” Castanos’61 and Ernesto "Ernie" Bolong’66.  Matti was a strikingly handsome ROTC officer, a Vanguard. I fondly remember Matti as one of the original Betan singers in our traditional Folkways concerts.  Ernie was from the College of Veterinary Medicine who lived and worked for a few years here in Los Angeles in the late 80’s before returning to his home province of La Union.  May their souls rest in peace.

Remember to call or email me for questions or suggestions.  As always, write to the web administrator, Ollie Jumao-as (ollie@mansys.ph) for your articles/news and also to get your passwords to the protected sites.   I have updated the UPBSFI Directory and this will be loaded to the web shortly.  Fyi, the Membership Profile Form is in the “Bits and Pieces” section should you need to file or update your info.   And please pass this on to other UP Betans who have not heard about our organization, our website and our fraternal efforts.

Regards to you all and Cheers to our 60th!!
